We all have those times where we get bad news, or we're going through something, or we're just having a bad day. Sometimes it may seem like nothing can help you feel better, but here's a list of nine things that just might be able to lift your spirits.

1. Be a burrito of sadness

This might be the opposite of what most people will tell you to do when you're sad, but everyone needs a good sulk once in a while. Grab a blanket, maybe some tissues, burrow down and let it all out. You’re not allowed to do this all day though. Set a time limit. I recommend twenty minutes, definitely no more than an hour. And make sure you tell yourself that when your time is up, your time is up. No more being sad. You only get to be a burrito of sadness if you promise to let it go and get over whatever has you down once that timer goes off.

2. Chill out (without being a burrito of sadness)

Grab a bowl of popcorn and maybe some chocolate and curl up on the couch to watch a movie, read a book or even play a video game. Doing something small like this for yourself should not only make you feel better, but it should take your mind off of everything else.

3. Get out

If sitting around isn’t your forte and you can’t seem to get your mind off things, get out of the house and do something. I don’t suggest going for a walk, because that might only get you thinking about your problem more, but anything else will suffice. Go grab some ice cream, have a drink with some friends, or even just going grocery shopping might keep your mind off things.

4. Talk it out

Sometimes the best way to get over something is to talk it out. Meet up with a friend or a family member and let them help you process and get over whatever is bringing you down. Venting can do wonders.

5. Tune it out

While a walk might only get you thinking about things, a good run or workout with your favorite music blasting might be just what you need. The louder the music the better. Exercising also works to reduce your stress so if your problems are causing you to stress out as well then this could be the right move.

6. Hug it out

You'd actually be amazed at the power that hugs have- take it from someone who doesn't even like to be touched. I can't tell you how many times I've been stressed out or upset and I've texted a few friends and asked if I can come get some hugs. It sounds silly but it's actually pretty great and it helps a ton. Don't knock it 'til you try it.

7. Go shopping

There’s nothing like some quality retail therapy to get you over just about anything. Don’t feel like going out? Stay in and do some online shopping. Nothing to shop for? It’s never too early to buy some Christmas gifts.

8. Watch cute pet videos

If this can’t lift your spirits then I’m not sure what would.Try searching: "puppies climbing stairs", or "cats getting stuck" for some laughs and smiles.

9. Watch laughing baby videos

Okay, if the pet videos didn’t help you out, then this is the last chance you have. Watching videos of babies giggling uncontrollably is just about one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Their laughter is completely contagious and should have you feeling better in no time.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
