We, poly sci majors, know all about political parties, political theory, comparative politics, etc. We know about the procedure in which the government legislates. We probably know way too much information about the Constitutional Convention. But the one thing that we don’t know is why people don’t seem to know anything about us, what we study, or what we even do.
1. “Yeah, I never registered to vote. I don’t have time.”
2. "I don't care about politics."
Then I guess you’ll be okay with First Lady Kim Kardashian in 2020..
3. “I think Donald Trump would be a good President.”
4. "What is political science?"
This is the first time I've ever been rendered speechless so congrats!
5. “Political science? Have you started thinking about law school?”
6. “Why are you even studying politics? You won’t make a difference or fix our screwed up system.”
7. “Political science? Do you watch Scandal? Are you Team Jake or Team Fitz?”
8. “Wow, do you want to be the First Lady?”
Do you honestly think that I’ll waste all of this time working towards a successful career in politics only to be a glorified house wife? Has Beyonce taught you nothing about girl power?
9. “So, are you going to run for President one day?”
Who in their right mind would want that job? But, I'll consider it if Hillary loses because I’m the first female President or nothing.
For future reference please don’t say any of these to a political science major. If you do, you’re just asking for an eye roll and a sarcastic answer. But if you want to talk about Hobbes or CSPAN or foreign policy, then hit a poly sci major up.
