9 Things I've Learned From Rock Climbing.

1. Sometimes there is nothing to it but to do it. It’s so easy to get caught up in the idea that you simply can’t do something-that if you try you will fail, so why even bother? This feeling almost never fails when I am attempting to top out on a bouldering problem and the next moves seems so far out of my reach and I suddenly feel like I’m going to fall. But more often than not I simply have to try, and I realize I can do it. In fact, at times its actually pretty easy, the only thing against me was my own doubt.

2. You can’t judge someone’s skills by their looks. The strong-looking buff guys are not necessarily going to be the best climbers. It takes more than raw strength. It is a lot of thinking, technical movements, and fancy foot working to climb.

Just as this young girl, Ashima Shiraishi. One of the best climbers in the world, and she's only 15!

3. Just because it looks impossible doesn’t mean it is. That is one of the beauties of climbing. To look back at where you once were, to look back at how far the ground is and knowing that you made your way up, you went against gravity.

4. Keep calm. The best climbers do not successfully make moves out of fear of falling; they make the moves because they are calm and collected and believe they can do it. And even if they do fall they can still compose themselves afterwards. It’s all part of the sport.

5. Anyone can become an athlete. This isn’t to say any couch potato can simply get off their ass and be a good climber. It does take practice and dedication; but, anyone who truly wants it can learn to climb, it's not just for the elite.

6. There are always boundaries to be pushed, and eventually broken. Even if you think you have peaked, you haven’t. You can always improve in way or another, and you can always find a new challenge for yourself.

7. You are capable of more than you may initially believe. This sort of ties in to #3-but it's one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned from picking up rock climbing. I may not be the best climber but I can climb routes that used to look down right impossible for me to pull of. So now when seeing something new or facing a challenge instead of immediately thinking “I can't do that” I think to myself “Maybe I can…”

8. Everything takes more than simply thinking about it. This probably seems like a “duh” but hear me out: how many times are we told we just have to “believe” for something to happen? Though believing you can do something is an important first step towards actually accomplishing your goals, you also have to put in actual effort. You must work for it. Every dream you have ever wished for someone bought for the price time and hard work.

9. There is simply less joy living your whole life on the ground.

an image of taylor swift standing center stage surrounded by her backup dancers in elegant peacock esque outfits with a backdrop of clouds and a box rising above the stage the image captures the vibrant aesthetics and energy of her performance during the lover era of her eras tour

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
