Let's start with how to not care about other's opinion about me

While scrolling through my Facebook, I saw memories from last year and my "18 Things I Learned By 18" article.

Here I am, at 19 years old, reflecting on everything that I wrote and I have come to realize that it was time to write my "19 Things I Learned By 19" article. I then realized I didn't learn much and what I did learn were things that weren't as satisfying as they should have been.

18 was a tough year for me: many things happened in my personal life, at school, and at work. I sat down and realized that I need to make a change.

I am now 19 years old and I'm not nearly as happy as I believe I should be, therefore there are a few changes I need to make and a few things that I need to still learn.

This year, I am not writing a "19 Things I Learned By 19" article (although that might come at some point), I will be writing a "Things I Hope To Learn By 20" article.

1. How to truly accept myself

Many people have self-confidence issues and I think, for me, it's time to start accepting myself with my flaws and all. You cannot be truly happy until you realize how important it is to accept yourself.

2. How to not care about other's opinion about me

I hate to admit it but I spend a lot of time worrying about other people's opinion. However, this year taught me that can just bring many nights of questioning yourself and that is very unhealthy. I hope to better myself in that area.

3. How to deal with my anxiety

I've come to learn that I cannot get rid of my anxiety, however, I realize that I can do things that can help me deal with it and calm myself down.

4. How to cook

On a lighter note, I would love to get better at cooking. I know how to cook the basics (if mac n cheese counts as a basic) but I think that by 20, I would love to know how to cook a larger selection of meals.

5. Get informed on different cultures

I love to read about traditions and I like to see how many people behave in different ways, therefore I would love to have knowledge on the subject.

6. How to get better at time management

Many people tell me that I run on "Hispanic time." I am late to almost everything, every day. It's awful but I have yet to figure out how to plan everything according to my time schedule.

7. Italian

I already speak English and Spanish but I would like to become trilingual and speak a third language. I would love to take on Italian next.

8. Makeup

I love seeing people with eyelashes and winged eyeliner. I would like to learn how to get better at applying makeup.

9. How to write better

At times I get a bit self-conscious on my writing, and there are a few grammar areas I could get better in. I would really like to work on that aspect of my writing.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
