As a single 20-year-old in college, I find myself far away from having children, but that doesn't stop me from having the heart of a mom. My feelings go beyond enjoying kids or looking forward to a future of being a parent. Being a mom at heart is simply a part of my personality. I've met quite a few college girls in the same boat as me, struggling with baby fever, toddler withdrawals and craving the cuddles of kiddos. Here are some other signs of being a mom at heart.
1. Just seeing children gets you excited.
Babies at the store and toddlers in restaurants are the highlight of your day. You find yourself wondering if it would be appropriate to ask the parents if you can have a hug.
2 You find yourself reading about parenting.
Blogs, books, articles and magazines. You’ve read them all in the hopes of learning a little more about what is to come.
3. If you have siblings, they treat you like their second mom.
When you get called “mom” by accident, they don’t even correct themselves.
4. You have a detailed list of names for your future children.
This list is updated regularly and even has the meanings for all the names you’ve picked.
5. “Do you want kids?” is your first question on a date.
This usually comes with the follow up, “How many do you want?” If these answers aren’t what you want to hear, you may seriously reconsider this guy.
6. You thoroughly enjoy baby clothes/shoes/accessories.
Seeing cute little outfits in the store or blankets with a perfect pattern makes you pause. Your friends have to remind that you don’t have a baby and shouldn’t be wasting your money.
7. You take every opportunity you can to spend time with kids.
Whether you’re babysitting, volunteering as a camp counselor or nursery helper, you’re trying to find excuses to spend some time with little ones.
8. You’re a magnet for children.
Kids gravitate to you for attention or help wherever you go, and you’re more than OK with this.
9. You mother those around you.
Taking care of others is second nature, and you find yourself being the mother of your friend groups.
