The 7 Things That Will Make You Realize You Are Exactly Like Your Mom

This inevitable life event is not half as terrifying as it appears to be.

The 7 Things That Will Make You Realize You Are Exactly Like Your Mom

Growing up, we all have experienced a period of time where our moms are the most annoying, embarrassing, overwhelming people in our lives. They are constantly calling, butting into the personal details of your life, and saying all the wrong things at all the wrong times. You might even, from time to time, feel ashamed that your mom is your mom, a thought you will come to regret your entire life. Because one day, whether you have already experienced this or it is pending in your near future, you are going to wake up in the morning, look at yourself in the mirror, and realize that you ARE in fact your mom. Here is how you will recognize this when your day finally comes:

1. You actually begin to LIKE her clothes.

That shirt you once thought was ugly hanging in her closet three years ago becomes your go-to shirt for going out. She will probably become your favorite shopping partner, and it won't hurt that she'll buy you the occasional top for no reason. Growing up also means you can fit into each other's things. If you are REALLY just like your mom, you might even wind up buying each other the same exact sweater for Christmas (like my mother and I did last year).

2. Your voices begin to sound alike.

There is just nothing like calling up your grandparents and having them say, "Oh, hello [insert mom's name here]!," when they answer the phone, only to have to explain to them that it is in fact their grandchild calling them, not their daughter.

3. You start to pick up on her phrases and language.

Her favorite phrase, "This too shall pass," might just become your life motto. You find yourself talking to your friends, stopping yourself and saying, "Ew, that was something my mom would say." Do not be alarmed. Gradually you will learn to accept this, and her quotes will work their way into 50 percent of your daily conversations.

4. You will start to change things about your appearance to match hers.

Remember that time you said you would NEVER get contacts? Or that time you said you would NEVER dye your hair? You thought she was weird for changing her appearance and questioned WHY she would possibly switch the color of her hair. Well, look at you now without your glasses and with flowing blonde locks, just like your mom.

5. Your attitude toward situations or other people.

Did you ever wonder when you were younger how your mother could POSSIBLY keep her cool to that rude retail worker, or even your out-of-line family member? Her patience and composure was commendable, as was her ability to politely stick up for the people she cares about. Her ability to laugh in difficult situations is admirable. It is also something you realized you (thankfully) have inherited during that fight with your stubborn friend, or a tiff with your significant other.

6. Simple mannerisms.

You and your mom almost seem to walk in the same rhythm. From the back, it is almost difficult to tell who is who. When you do things at the same time, people may tell you it is "scary," or you are "twins," which is not necessarily a bad thing.

7. You find yourself constantly laughing at each other's jokes.

When you and your mom are together, it is constant back and forth or punchlines, laughing harder and harder with each one. You come to realize that that is because over the years, whether you realized or not, you developed the same sense of humor as your mom. Sometimes, you think that there is no one else in this world that you could possibly have a better time with. Your mom is the best friend that you could ask for. Perhaps this is when it will really hit you. You ARE your mom, she is what you are growing into, and maybe there is no bigger blessing than that.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
