As a born and raised San Antonio native I may be a little biased, but in my opinion San Antonio has to be the most underrated city in Texas. It tends to be forgotten behind Austin, Dallas, and Houston. If you take anything from this, I hope it’s that San Antonio has a lot more to offer beyond the Alamo and the Riverwalk.
1. Affordable Real Estate
San Antonio maintains its hold as the most affordable metro housing market in Texas. This is good news whether you’re a young post grad, soon-to-be newlywed, or a potential investor.
2. Great Schools
Health Careers High School, International School of America, and Alamo Heights High School are ranked in the top 35 high schools in Texas!
3. The Alamo Quarry Market
The smokestacks can be seen from miles away. The Quarry Market includes a movie theater, great restaurants, and shops such as Whole Earth Provision Co., Nordstrom Rack, James Avery, and Whole Foods Market.
4. The Pearl Brewery
Boutiques, Bakery Lorraine, Bike World, La Gloria, the Local coffee shop, a Farmer’s Market, and the Historic Pearl Brewery can all be found at the Pearl. This area of San Antonio continues to grow, and the value of the real estate surrounding the pearl continues to rise. The Pearl offers some of the best entertainment and has a friendly and diverse culture.
5. The Tower Of The Americas
Probably the most recognizable part of the San Antonio skyline, the Tower of the Americas stands at 750 feet tall and has a restaurant and an observation deck with a breathtaking view of the city.
6. Six Flags Fiesta Texas
With thrilling roller coasters and the White Water Bay water park, Six Flags Fiesta Texas offers fun during the summer months as well as the holiday season. If you ever get the chance, ride the steel rattler. You won’t regret it.
7. The Shops At La Cantera
Right next door to Six Flags Fiesta Texas, you can find the best dining, shopping, and entertainment at La Cantera. If the weather is nice, La Cantera is the perfect place to take a stroll and enjoy some retail therapy.
8. Los Spurs, Baby
Five NBA Championships, Gregg Popovich, Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker, Kawhi Leonard, and now LaMarcus Aldridge. Need I say more?
9. Fiesta
San Antonio has a ten-day festival every spring that is basically one big party to celebrate and honor the heroes of the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto. Between NIOSA and the parades, there isn’t a dull moment when Fiesta rolls around.
