John Green is one of the most talked about modern day authors in our society. His fictional characters, with their poetic words and heart-wrenching back stories, are enough to inspire you to keep your nose right in the pages. He writes with such ease and enough talent to tug at all your heart strings and possibly ruin all your mental stability. If you're 14 or 40, you'll still be quoting his words on your Facebook that ultimately sum up your complicated life. Here are nine of what I define as John Green's most inspirational quotes.
1. "You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world, Old man, but you do have some say in who hurts you."
- John Green; The Fault In Our Stars
2. "At some point, you just pull off the bandaid and it hurts but then it's over and you're relieved."
- John Green; Looking For Alaska
3. " Books are the ultimate Dumpees: put them down and they’ll wait for you forever; pay attention to them and they always love you back."
- John Green; An Abundance of Katherines
4. "There are infinite numbers between 0 and 1. There's .1 and .12 and .112 and an infinite collection of others. Of course, there is a bigger infinite set of numbers between 0 and 2, or between 0 and a million. Some infinities are bigger than other infinities. A writer we used to like taught us that. There are days, many of them, when I resent the size of my unbounded set. I want more numbers than I'm likely to get, and God, I want more numbers for Augustus Waters than he got. But, Gus, my love, I cannot tell you how thankful I am for our little infinity. I wouldn't trade it for the world. You gave me a forever within the numbered days, and I'm grateful."
- John Green; The Fault In Our Stars (Pretty long but such an amazing quote from the book that had me crying so hard!)
5. "What a treacherous thing to believe that a person is more than a person."
- John Green; Paper Towns
6. "Maybe there's something you're afraid to say, or someone you're afraid to love, or somewhere you're afraid to go. It's gonna hurt. It's gonna hurt because it matters."
- John Green; Will Grayson, Will Grayson
7. "I am going to take this bucket of water and pour it on the flames of hell, and then I am going to use this torch to burn down the gates of paradise so that people will not love God for want of heaven or fear of hell, but because He is God."
- John Green; Looking for Alaska
8. "There's some people in this world who you can just love and love and love no matter what."
- John Green; An Abundance of Katherines
9. "And all at once I knew how Margo Roth Spiegelman felt when she wasn't being Margo Roth Spiegelman: she felt empty. She felt the unscaleable wall surrounding her. I thought of her asleep on the carpet with only that jagged sliver of sky above her. Maybe Margo felt comfortable there because Margo the person lived like that all the time: in an abandoned room with blocked-out windows, the only light pouring in through holes in the roof. Yes. The fundamental mistake I had always made—and that she had, in fairness, always led me to make—was this: Margo was not a miracle. She was not an adventure. She was not a fine and precious thing. She was a girl."
- John Green; Paper Towns
Now I desperately need to find TFIOS and watch it. Let me know in the comment which was your favorite or if you have any others you'd like to share with me!
