With the recent heat wave, temperatures of 96 degrees are feeling a lot more like 105 to 110 degrees... So what are you supposed to do when going outside for too long is dangerous for your health?

1. Try a New "No Bake" Recipe

There's nothing worse than having to turn on your oven when you can bake brownies on the roof of your car. But, you're hungry. Like really hungry. Have no fear, there are thousands of recipes online for treats that only require a freezer! Food Network and All Recipes are two websites that have a ton of recipes, ranging from cookies to ice cream to anything with peanut butter!

2. Make Your Pet a Treat!

Animals get hot, too! If the recipes weren't really your thing, you can help keep your animals cool. Recipes for "pupsicles" have become fairly popular, and they're a good way to keep you busy and keep your pets cool.

3. Rent a Movie On-Demand (or Just Stick to Netflix!)

Normally I'm the first person to suggest binge watching an old favorite on Netflix, but On-Demand has many movie options that are newly released or still in theaters. Instead of driving all the way to the crowded theater, save yourself the trip and the extra cash. Pop your own popcorn, put on some comfy clothes, and turn your living room into a theater!

4. Try to Work From Home (if possible)

I know, I know. This sounds like it sucks. But it's not summer vacation for everyone! Many offices require professional attire with long bottoms and nicer tops, or scrubs that have long pants. For people who commute to work who have the capability of working from home, please do so for your safety! Again, I do realize that this isn't possible for everyone, and if you still have to make that commute, drink plenty of water please!

5. Watch the Olympics!

They aren't going to be on much longer, and hopefully the heat wave follows suit, but America is in the lead! What better a way to spend your time indoors than watching some of our finest athletes compete!

6. Learn Something New

Download the app CastBox to get a ton of podcasts for free! You can listen while doing work around the house or just while relaxing. Whatever you want to learn more about, they have everything from general to specifics taught by experts. I've found myself learning about subjects I didn't know I found interesting!

7. Organize

That shelf in your room piled with stuff? You said you'd organize it months ago. Well, now you have time! It sucks right now, but not as much as having to organize when you could be going out with friends. Take this opportunity and utilize the time you have! (Warning: Easier said than done.)

8. Play a Board Game

Assuming you aren't home alone, grab a sibling or two and break out the games you guys used to play when you were younger! If you are alone, you can download apps that allow you to play your favorite board games against a computer!

Thankfully, heat waves don't last forever, but it can be irritating knowing you should stay inside. Just think about how wonderful it'll feel in a few days, knowing you haven't wasted any time!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
