Contrary to popular belief, scoliosis affects about 3 out of every 100 people on this planet. Being one of those people since I was 10, I've grown to know just how difficult growing up with scoliosis can be. Aside from the medical drama, here are just a few of the things I've noticed in my 10 years of having scoliosis.
1. Just sitting for too long hurts
Even the simplest of things can cause the most irritating pain
2. You get mad when people nag you to "sit up straight."
I don't think you understand. I literally can't do that!
3. Telling people to hit your stomach, and laugh when they felt your brace
The sweet victory of having someone hit you, then they're hand is hurting.
4. Or you were just known as "the kid with the hard belly"
Don't mind me, I'll just be over here crying with my torso of steel
5. Your back can hurt from doing absolutely nothing
Standing, sitting, driving, let me know why you cause me so much pain?
6. Hearing "Oh my friend has scoliosis, so you guys are the same" and being like:
Sorry buddy but there are many different types of scoliosis out there
7. Feeling weird bending down and having one side of your back be higher than the other
Basically, people are freaked out by our disproportion
8. Being told "you can't help it, so you might as well emBRACE it"
Yes, you're so funny, please tell me more scoliosis puns
