The Olympics are in full swing, and all the happy, sad and everything in between moments garner quite a response from the world. Through the triumphs, feuds and injuries, the world watches as the best of the best compete for the coveted gold medals. What better way to capture the world's reactions to these beautiful, happy moments by relating it to a show that also earned quite a variety of reactions to it's highly controversial conclusion?
1. When Simone Biles decides gravity doesn't apply to her.
For someone so small, she has so much power and truly lives up to her title as the best gymnast in the world.
2. The fact that Katie Ledecky is the world-record holder in the 800m freestyle, and beat herself.
This girl literally has no competition. Her races consist of her racing against only her previous record-breaking time, with no opponents in sight. In fact, she finished a whopping 12 seconds before the silver medalist in the event in Rio, Jazmin Carlin. One opponent was even quoted saying that she was honored to be able to see Ledecky's feet as the race progressed.
3. When Michael Phelps won his 23rd individual gold medal.
He is now the most decorated Olympian in history over his five Olympic runs, which is nothing shy of legendary.
4. That time Aly Raisman peaked at exactly the right moment and absolutely killed her individual all around floor routine.
The minute she ended her routine, she knew, and we knew, that she had made it on the podium. She got a silver medal, coming second only to teammate Simone Biles. Sweet, sweet victory for the reigning gold medalist on floor, and even better redemption, as she beat Russia's Aliya Mustafina with whom she tied for bronze in London, but ultimately lost out in the tie-breaking procedure.
5. When Samir Aiit Saiid broke his leg in the men's gymnastics individual all around vault rotation.
There are a lot of amazing moments at the Olympics, but there's a category all of it's own for people who break their legs and have the lower half of their leg go approximately 90 degrees off what it used to. Yikes. I wish him the speediest of recoveries.
6. When U.S. swimmer Lilly King openly finger-wagged at Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova in regards to the doping scandal.
Efimova had been previously banned twice for using performance enhancing drugs, and King simply stated that she was not a fan of her or her celebration for winning, considering the controversy surrounding her unethical training.
7. When Cuba won its first Olympic Gold medal.
Who doesn't love an underdog? The country had national holidays in celebration of the win, and they are continuing to celebrate this iconic moment, as they should.
8. When everyone happy cries at medalling ceremonies.
There's nothing better than seeing an athlete be so proud of the work they've put in, not only in this Olympic games but over the course of a lifetime, to end up where they are. They're so proud and then the viewers are so proud of them and their country, so then the uber patriotism sets in, and then the happy tears all around the world flow all at once.
