1. Love Yourself
It’s okay to want to lose weight or trim those extra few pounds from the holiday season, but don’t let anyone make you feel less beautiful just because you might not be a size zero. Although it is important to want to feel good about what you look like, it is more important to feel good about what you think of yourself.
2. Love your Family
These are some of the last few years of our lives that we will be able to see our families. We have the luxury right now to go home for the weekends or go on family vacations. In a few years, those moments will be non-existent. We will enter into the real world and won’t have the time, money, or ability to go home and see our loved ones as much as we can now.
3. Commit
Whatever you say you want to do, stick with it! Don’t back down or give up, especially when you’re only a month or so in. It's a New Year's Resolution, not a New Month's Resolution.
4. Make a New Year’s Resolution NOT for yourself
Make a resolution to help others. Volunteer once a week or once a month at an animal shelter, Salvation Army, soup kitchen, etc. It’s not to make yourself feel better, but to actually do some good in your community for others.
5. Make the most of the Small Moments
Your New Year’s Resolutions don't have to be something big or life changing. They can simply be to enjoy the small moments that make up everyday life. Smile when you find the time to watch an episode of your favorite Netflix show, pat yourself on the back when you get a good parking spot, and be content when you get the chance to eat your favorite meal (Chipotle!).
6. Take Advantage of the Big Moments
The big moments are important too. Take these years in college and make the most of them. Go explore different cities and plan road trips to go skiing or visit Disney World. Don't let these years pass you by without making a few good memories.
7. Money
It’s hard for me to say this because I truly do know how important it is to save your money, but don’t let it control your life. If there is an opportunity for you to be involved in a vacation or mission trip, do it. Take the money out of your savings or work it out with your parents. I know you need to pay your utilities or buy food, but you have the rest of your life to save money and only these four years to be a little careless.
8. Be Intentional
If you’re going to do a weekly devotion, delve into it. If you pass by your friend on campus, stop and ask them how they are. If you’re going to try to get your grades up, study harder. Don’t blame lack of time, little energy, or bad teachers. This is your year!
