8 Fun Oneonta Adventures For This Spring

Now that it is officially spring, let's hope Mother Nature is nice enough to continue making the sun shine brighter, temperature warmer, and weather nicer. The occasional rain showers are acceptable, after all, April showers do bring May flowers. But hopefully, they will be kept to a minimum so these fun Oneonta adventures can be crossed off the spring bucket list.

1. Hike to Table Rock

Located on Hartwick's campus, this relatively short trail provides a beautiful view overlooking the town of Oneonta once you're at the top. Perfect for a weekend hike that doesn't require traveling too far, the trail isn't too difficult to carry a picnic lunch with you to eat at the top while enjoying the scenery.

2. Strawberry Fields

If you've already done the Table Rock hike and are looking for something different, try Strawberry Fields! The entrance to this trail is right across from where you would start the hike for Table Rock on Hartwick campus but provides a different view and scenery along the way.

3. Picnic in Wilber Park

Filled with areas great for picnics, Wilber Park is located in downtown Oneonta. With easy walking access from taking the bus, there is no better place to enjoy the spring weather while hanging with some friends on the weekend. There are even hiking trails located throughout the park to get your steps in for the day!

4. OH Fest

This is the day in late April almost all Oneonta and Hartwick students look forward to. Prior to OH Fest, students can compete in the battle of the bands for a spot to play during the day on Main Street or open for the artist at the main concert. This all-day event begins with a fun carnival filled with live music and good food on Main Street and ends with a free concert in Neahwa Park.

5. College Camp

Just a few minute drive from campus, College Camp consists of a large area of open land complete with hiking trails, a beautiful lake, and even a lodge available for students to rent for a night!

6. Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard

About a half hour drive from SUNY Oneonta, Fly Creek Cider Mill and Orchard is complete with beautiful views, a marketplace with cider tastings, and a restaurant/bakery with delicious baked goods made right on site. They open for the season at the beginning of April.

7. Unadilla Drive-In Movie Theatre

Ever wish you could go to a drive-in movie? Well with this theatre only about a short 15-minute drive from campus, you can! The theatre will also be opening for the season next month.

8. Ghost Tours

Interested in ghost stories and spooky history? Head to Cooperstown for a ghost tour lasting a little over an hour, touring through haunted houses in the town. Not the best for a last minute adventure because reservations are required, but like the above two, they won't be open for the season until April.

With the endless possibilities, make sure to take some breaks throughout the remaining of the semester to go on some fun adventures around Oneonta enjoying the nice spring weather.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
