Listen up. October is here, people. Fall is in full swing swing, and that means we only have 2.5 months to soak up all of Autumn’s goodness. Between midterms, planning for the holidays, and coming up with the perfect slutty Halloween costume, it’s important to remain grounded this Fall and put your own needs first. Here are seven ways to take care of yourself this season.

1. Set healthy intentions.

The beginning of a season can be like a fresh start. Take Autumn as an opportunity to reflect, release negative patterns, and set intentions for the coming year. Not only will this practice keep your mind from getting overly cluttered, but it will also provide a little inspiration to jumpstart your motivation and combat any early seasonal depression.

2. Actually spend time outside.

Let’s be real, it’s probably about to get cold AF soon. Enjoy the last few weeks of decent weather and get outside. Take one last camping trip, go for a hike or a bike ride, actually walk your dog, take the longer route from your house to your car… whatever “spend time outside” means to you, get your inner adventurer out and enjoy the fresh air.

3. Take advantage of essential oils that compliment Autumn.

Cinnamon for stress, sandalwood to combat dry skin and depression, sage for emotional and physical protection, and vanilla for...its delicious smell. There are dozens of essential oils that can give you the support you need. Come up with your own perfect Fall blend.

4. Eat yummy Fall foods.

Apples, turnips, brussel sprouts, pumpkins, cabbage, broccoli...the list goes on. The months of October and November are heavy with fruits and veggies that are in season. (Pro tip: Skip the grocery store and head to a local farmer’s market. Locally grown produce is always amaze-balls. Fact.)

5. Burn sage.

Burning sage, or smudging, cleanses the negative energy within a space. Smudging has also been scientifically proven to eliminate bacteria in the air. It also smells yummy and makes you feel earthy AF.

6. Do an autumn-inspired yoga sequence.

Check out this practice to stay balanced, this practice to stay grounded, this practice for the autumnal equinox, or, come up with your own! Yoga is a great way to stay active and grounded, and it can also be used to celebrate the Autumnal Equinox.

7. Cuddle up with loved ones.

With the chill in the air, you might not always be inspired to get out and moving. So what’s the obvious solution? Veg out with someone you love! Grab your s/o, roommate, dog, or your body pillow and watch a scary movie or just hang out under a pile of blankets.

Fall is a lot of fun, but it can also be a stressful time of year. It can be very tempting to fall into the craziness of the season (pun intended) and get lost in the stress and trivial obligations. I encourage you to rise above that temptation and maintain a sense of balance and integrity. It’s important to always put your needs first -- in a healthy way. Happy Autumn!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
