Mornings are stressful and chaotic. Getting out of bed is a battle, and breakfast seems like more of a luxury than a requirement. So, here are some tips to make your mornings a little better.
1. Give yourself enough time.
When your alarm goes off at 8:30 in the morning, and you spend 15 minutes lying in bed contemplating if you should just go back to sleep, you really haven't even given yourself a chance to make it to your 9 a.m. class. This immediately sets you up for a stressful morning of chaos and racing to beat the clock. Instead, set your alarm early, in order to give yourself enough time to lie in bed for 10 minutes, eat a good breakfast, and even do something with your hair.
2. Do something.
It doesn't have to be going on a three-mile run to start your day (kudos to anyone who is capable of doing so), but at least give yourself some time to wake up while you check emails, catch up on reading, or drink a cup of coffee. Allow some quiet time to fully wake up before you start rushing around.
3. Listen to music.
Rather than sitting in the silence of your own morning misery as you get ready for class or work, bump some jams. Put on something that will wake you up and have you singing around the room as you put on makeup and eat breakfast. Music can serve as a great way to help you prepare for the day ahead of you.
4. Eat something.
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, blah, blah, blah. But it really is important, not only to sustaining a healthy diet, but to help you wake up. Having coffee and fruit or oatmeal is a great way to start out your day, plus you won't be starving by lunchtime. A big glass of water is also a great addition to any morning routine. Besides, food makes everything better.
5. Know what the day holds.
Check your calendar, emails, phone, planner, basically every place there may be some important thing going on. The worst feeling is walking into class and remembering you had homework due. So, be sure to check out everything that you have planned for that day to avoid any unwanted early morning surprises.
6. Get ready the night before.
Remember when your mom used to tell you to set out your clothes the night before? Well, it really is a huge time saver. I waste countless minutes standing in front of my closet, trying to decide what to wear. There isn't much time in the morning to waste, so having a general idea what you will be strutting around in the next day saves a ton of time. It's also helpful to pack up the books you'll need for the next day before you go to bed.
7. Charge everything.
Remember to charge up your phone, computer, watch, and other devices before you go to bed. The worst feeling is sitting down in class to take notes and realizing that you have a dead laptop. Starting the day with 100 percent-charged devices only makes the mornings easier.
