1. This is how Elle begins the healing process and how we should too...
This is how every girl heals the first few days of a break up. Any sound of anyone being happy, real or fictional, will make us say "LIAR" because right now love doesn't seem real. And for a while it doesn't because of some undeserving guy that thought we weren't enough.
2. Struggling as to why he didn't like you...
This second stage we go through is when we literally think we are not good enough for anyone and so we try and tell ourselves how good we are. Honestly, Warner is a jerk for giving a girl like Elle up, and she's right, everyone does like her. Those people that don't like her either want to be with her or wish they were her. It all boils down to jealousy.
3. Warner had crappy reasons for breaking up with Elle, and your EX does too
There are dumb reasons why boys break up with us. Elle pretty much calls out Warner for being an idiot right from the get go. That she should. He wanted someone different and a different lifestyle (typical frat boy attitude not making his girl a part of his journey). He says that he wants to marry a Jackie and not a Marilyn. Look buddy, if you're that much of an idiot to actually think that blondes are nothing, you have issues. Elle was willing to call Warner out on it, and we should be too. Go live your life buddy go see if we will be there when you fall.
4. On the bright side, you can do you again.
Good news for you and Elle, you can finally stop trying to be those people "we are just not". For Elle, it's no more boring suits or pantyhose, no more trying to be conservative and tip-toe around people's feelings all alone. Elle can be Elle again without a man bringing her down. We can be us again because no one is telling us what to believe and think.
5. Realizing it really wasn't you, he has his own issues
In this scene, Elle finally figures out that pining after a guy is not what she wants for herself. No matter how hard she tries, law degree or not, she will never be good enough for Warner. That is not Elle's problem, that is Warner's, and in all honesty she is better off without him. Of course, she may not know it now, but eventually she realizes that she is a great person and does not need him
6. Through it all, have faith in yourself
It takes Elle a little while to come to this realization but it is a difficult one. By the end of the movie, Elle went from a sorority girl to a big time Harvard Law graduate all because one stupid boy broke her heart. Heartbreak is part of life but at the end of the day what we have is ourselves. The most important part is that our self-worth is high and that we always believe that we are going to get through it.
7. He was holding us back anyways so taking him back when he finally gets over himself is a waste of time.
I am with Elle on this one. When he finally decides he is mature enough for a woman like you and I, don't take him back because he obviously doesn't value you as a person. You were his second priority always. Elle moved on and found Emmet, a guy who finally showed her that men can be trusted and that supports her no matter what. Even if she has one of those blonde moments, he think she is incredibly smart and worth every second. We will all get to leave our Warner's in the dust and end up with our Emmet's.
Plus, it's a little icing on the cake that Warner graduates without a girlfriend, honors, or a job offer. Because believe it or not, there is a life after college. Breakups can eventually be really sweet.
