My name is not super different, but it is definitely one you do not hear very often. So when people do hear my name, they take a minute to think about it, process it, and then start asking questions about it. I know there are a ton of people out there who have way different names than I do, but from my experience here is 10 things that always happen with a unique name:
1. No One Knows How to Pronounce It.
Ever since I was little, for some unknown reason people could never pronounce my name. They wanted to add an "ne" to it or just an "n" when it is spelled blatantly in front of them. So every time in role call during class, when I knew my name was coming up, I instantly would just say it so no one could get confused.
2.Everyone Ask How You Got Your Name.
Well, for one, my parents named me so I guess that would be how I got my name, but if you are asking when my parents had the idea than that is a different story. For me, my mom got my name from a movie called "Poetic Justice". Unfortunately I have never seen the movie and I am named after it.
3. No One Can Spell Your Name.
Anytime I am saying my name for someone on the phone or in person I have to spell it for them so they can properly understand. Even then some people do not catch on and I have to explain that it is spelled just like it is in the Pledge of Allegiance.
4. They Don't Know If You are Male Or Female.
I do not know how many times I have been mistaken as a male just by my name. They send emails to you or even on phone calls referring to Mr or Miss, and it is completely just the wrong idea. Once they meet me, it gets a little awkward because they may have pictured me as a man by my name. I am most definitely not.
5. Everyone Wants to Make Jokes With Your Name
Because of my name being Justice, everyone wants to compare me to superheroes. Saying how I am like the Justice League or say I am Batman. Sorry everyone, but the jokes have been made before and I do not really find them that funny anymore. The best is when my friends say, "You can no longer say we do not bring Justice when I have her right here." That one is a little new, but still very cliche.
6. When People Say I like Your Name.
Every time I meet someone new it is always the same, "Ohm I really like your name. It is so different and it is pretty." I always say thank you, but in my head I just think, "Oh thanks, my parents gave me this name like 22 years ago and I know it is very different."
7. You Could Never Find Your Name On Anything.
You know when you are little and everyone can find their name on pencils, pens, erasers, key chains and multiple other things? But because your name is so different it is never in your favor. So if you want anything with your name on it, you have to ask your parents to special order it for you.
Having a unique name is good and bad. Good because there are not a lot of people that you know with that name and it is nice to be the only one. Bad because it is different and everyone gets a little thrown off by it.
