7 Summer Activities To Do When The Weather Gets Chilly

There's a lot of beauty in living in the northeast and one of the biggest is getting to enjoy all four seasons. Some people love the cold and count the days until snow starts to fall, other live for the summer months and the heat and walking barefoot through the sand. Even though summer is technically over since Labor Day just passed, here are a few activities that you can continue to enjoy until the bitter cold hits us.

Heading to the beach

So it's not always thought of to go to the beach in September or October, but there's been some seriously warm weather still during these months in recent years. Even better, most families start to really get busy once school starts back up so heading to the beach during weekends in these months can be pure bliss. Less people and still getting some sun makes catching up on any missed summer reading a breeze.

Bonfires

Some people pack up the smores and bonfire tools once the school year starts but there is nothing like a bonfire when the weather gets colder. In fact, it's even better and more fun to cozy up next to the fire once the weather gets colder out. Make sure to invite some friends over for a nice chilly night to still drink some beers or wine and hang out by the fire to catch up, even during the busy fall months.

Day drinking

I don't know what it is about summer that screams Saturday and Sunday day drinking sessions with friends that people think because the pools get closed up it needs to stop but hello - it's football season! That's the perfect excuse to kick it with friends on a weekend afternoon and play some corn hole or other yard games. And even if you're not into sports, make it an autumn themed day with some cider mimosas, pumpkin beers and anything else that screams celebrating the season during the weekends.

Outdoor Exercising

Going for a nice run in the warm weather or doing some outdoor yoga is so peaceful since it's summer, but sometimes a workout is even better when layered up. Running in the crisp morning can be so peaceful and layering up to do some outdoor exercising can be even more relaxing. It kicks off your day with some nice activities and exercise without the overbearing heat of the summer.

Eating Ice Cream

I never understood why people focus on getting ice cream in the warmer weather. Yes, it might make more sense to grab a cup of coffee or tea in the cold, but you can definitely still walk to get ice cream. Even better, your ice cream won't melt within seconds. It might be a little cold but there's nothing like getting ice cream in the chilly weather

Grilling

Some people pack up the grill after Labor Day and don't touch it again until Memorial Day. These people are just wrong. You can actually grill any time of the year and a nice grilled steak, barbecue chicken, or grilled vegetables tastes even better when the weather gets a little bit colder out.

Gardening

You can still have a fabulous garden indoors during the cold winter months. Bring those plants inside and prop them up by a window and let those plants feed you year-round! Some plants might be harder to keep, as some might need a heat lamp, but fresh herbs and other plants are very easy to keep inside throughout the year.

You can do a lot of your favorite summertime activities throughout the winter, whether you realize it or not at the moment. Don't be upset when the summer is "over" or the weather gets a little bit chillier. Sometimes, that's when your summertime activities become more enjoyable because you appreciate them so much more.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
