When I was younger, there was nothing I hated more then my name. In school I would pray the teacher wouldn't take attendance. I despised the way they stumbled down to my name and stuttered through what they thought was correct. As I got older, I learned to love my name. I learned to say it proud and tell someone when they're saying it wrong. I learned to not answer to "Brandy" or "Bree" just to be polite. Even though I learned to love it, there is still some hardships that come with having a unique name.
1. Being called the wrong name.
I get called the wrong name on a daily basis. It's usually something close to my name, but still wrong. Don't even get me started about Starbucks, because they never get it right.
2. "Is that your first name?"
I understand some people go by their last name, but I promise you I wouldn't have my last name on my name tag at work. It's my first name, thanks though.
3. Being put on the boys list.
There was nothing I dreaded more then being called on the boys side of PE in middle school because someone put me on the boys list. Not only embarrassing, but an easy target for jokes.
4. "How do you spell that again?"
Uh, exactly how it sounds...? I've seen every spelling in the book for my name, even some that don't make sense. I think it's pretty self explanatory.
5. You can never find your name on anything.
All your friends growing up had cool keychains and coffee mugs with their names on them from vacations. No matter how optimistic you were going in to look, you knew deep down inside they wouldn't have your name.
6. "Wait, were you named after Tom Brady?"
Yup, my mom named me after a guy who was in high school. She just knew he was going to be in the NFL some day, so decided to name me after him before he was famous. You are RIGHT on the money. I'm positive that's what my mom had planned.
7. Having the same name as someones dog.
If I had a dollar for every time someone told me they have a dog with my name, I'd be a millionaire. Please refrain from telling me, it isn't nearly as funny as you think.
