Living in the society, in which we do, we can be emotionally draining for everyone, especially the youth who are struggling each day to find themselves without caving to the pressure to be “perfect.”
No matter who you are or where you come from, here are seven things to tell yourself that are sure to give your mental health a daily boost of affirmation and positivity.
1. You are your own person, and no one can take that away from you.
The decisions you make are your own, and you aren't living your life for anyone else. Don't question your judgement. Trust your instincts, and you can never go wrong.
2. Your worth is not defined by how others see you.
You are so much more than the sideways looks and backhanded compliments. Growing up and coming into our own is hard on so many people, and sometimes we don't know how to handle our emotions properly. Don't let anyone plant negative seeds in your garden. You are more than that.
3. You deserve every opportunity to be great.
Don't doubt that even for a second.
4. You are not a reflection of those who cannot love you, and it is not your job to show them what they’re missing.
Your only job is to be your true self, and do everything you have to in order to make your dreams come true.
5. You are appreciated, and everything you do does not go unnoticed.
I know it's hard to see it sometimes, but your successes are not ignored. Even the ones you think of as minuscule make the ones who love you so very proud, and they should make you proud of yourself, too.
6. You are worthy of success, and you aren’t selfish for doing what you need to do to get where you want to be.
You've got to accept the fact that sometimes, no matter how hard you try, you can't please everyone. And you know what? You shouldn't have to. Always make yourself a priority because that's what you are.
7. You are a beautiful human being, inside and out.
In all honesty, the first time I told myself these seven things, I laughed out loud.
Literally, I laughed at myself because the idea that I was of worth and value was hilarious. I'd never thought of myself like that before. I was always so busy taking up for others and demanding that everyone gave them the validation they deserved, I never spent any time telling these seven things to myself.
So, I dare you, reader. Print these words out, write them down, memorize them -- whatever you choose to do. But every morning, repeat these seven lines to yourself in front of a mirror. Whisper them under your breath when you feel like nothing is going right and you feel overwhelmed. Use these words as your shield and trust in them like no other. And I promise, they'll come with more ease every time.
