7 Reasons Why We Love College Football

Fall is a pretty great season. Want to know why? Two words: college football. Aside from going back to class and starting up another term, we get the beauty of watching and attending our beloved university football games. With that being said, if the student section isn't your most favorite place come football season, with the exception of tailgating in the parking lot, you may need to reevaluate your priorities -- or maybe you just don't like football, I guess that is okay too. However, if you are a football fanatic, you understand just how wonderful the game truly is. No matter the rough patches, we always seem to rekindle our love for it come fall. Here's why:

1. Tailgating.

There's nothing more American than lighting up the grill, opening up a cooler full of cold beer, and getting riled up for the game with all your best friends. If there's one sport all college students are great at, it's tailgating.

2. Heisman watch.

Everyone loves betting on who will win the heisman trophy for that year. We all like to think we know who will take home the prestigious award, even though the season has just begun.

3. Upsets. Upsets. Upsets.

This one only applies when it isn't your alma mater or your favorite team. Everyone loves an upset and if you don't you're wrong. When Michigan State beat Ohio State 17 to 14 in the final seconds of the game, everyone went crazy. Though Michigan State is a strong competitor, defeating the previous champions was a pretty big deal.

4. The vibes of a college campus on game day.

Walking through campus on game day you'd think everyone just won the lotto. College towns on game days are some of the most energetic and enthusiastic places to be. It makes watching the game and tailgating that much better.

5. The fact the games are on Saturdays.

As college students, we value our weekends and like to make the most of each day before we return to the harsh realities of class and homework. We get Friday to have some freedom and Sunday to recover from our weekend excursions. This makes Saturdays extremely important, however, we like to spend them watching football, drinking with our friends and enjoying the afternoon. We find Saturday's game day a valuable day in our lives.

6. The SEC.

No matter what conference your team is in, you still care about the SEC because this primary conference always does well. Their players are strong, fast, and very skilled making their games entertaining to watch and the scores close. They almost always end up making it to the National Title game.

7. Lee Corso.

Corso is either your best friend or your worst enemy. With one decision, he can make you a happy camper or someone seeking revenge. When he puts your team's mascot head on in prediction of winning, it's a magical moment because you and Corso finally see eye to eye. However, when he picks the other team, you queue the booing and proceed to hope for the best come kick off.

8. Winning

We all love a victory, whether it's a blow out or a ridiculously high scoring game.. we love when our team wins and stays winning. Post game celebrations are always ones to for the books and are often the highlight of everyone's weekends.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
