I guess you can call it a love/hate relationship.

7 Reasons Why I Couldn't Let Running Go

I found my passion for running in the seventh grade when I joined the cross country team. I went on to compete on the varsity team in high school, and soon after I was recruited to run collegiately. I gave the sport seven years of distance runs, hill repeats, speed workouts, and tiring meets. After many years of running cross country and track at a competitive level - after the thousands of miles I ran, I finally let it go. It was a relieving feeling not having such a huge physical and emotional responsibility hanging over my head. I thought I was done with running for the rest of my life. Within months of quitting, I was back running on my own - I just couldn't stay away. Here are seven reasons why I just couldn't let running go:

1. Running is a stress reliever.

There is nothing like going for a quick run to clear my mind and forget about all of my responsibilities, for even just a little while.

2. Running allows me to eat whatever I want.

I burn calories so I can eat calories - it's as simple as that.

3. There are an infinite amount of running locations.

Whether I want to run along the beach on a sunny day, work out on the treadmill during a snowstorm, explore local trails, or sprint on the track - there is always a place to run.

4. Running is a routine.

Whether it's the first thing I do in the morning, or the last thing I do at night, running is something I look forward to every day.

5. Running promotes competition.

I'm constantly finding new ways to push myself beyond my limits, whether I'm running a 5k race or just running on my own.

6. When I run, I sleep better at night.

Whether I'm so sore from a race that I need to lay down, or just relaxed and mellow after a run, I have a better night's sleep and a lower heart rate.

7. Running makes me feel accomplished.

Running several miles is tough in the moment, but the feeling of pride and accomplishment after it's over is well worth the effort.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
