The cold front has officially made its way to the City of Dreams, and it’s safe to say that the students of USC are more than ready to welcome back the warm weather. March is right around the corner and brings with it a lot of things to be excited about: Spring Break, Carolina baseball, and one of my personal favorites, Pelican’s SnoBalls.
Pelican’s is a little blue and pink building located at 1900 Rosewood Drive — you really can’t miss it. It made its debut in Columbia about a year ago and has already been a big hit with students and locals alike. Here are seven reasons why you should make your way over to Pelican’s:
1. Official Opening Day. Pelican’s will re-open on Friday, March 20th and they will be offering a special flavor promotion to everyone who decides to stop by — a kiddie sized Gone Fishin’ (polar punch, lemon lime, and gummy worms) will be only a dollar (originally $2.50.) Don’t let the word “kiddie” fool you, however. It’s a lot of SnoBall for your buck.
2. The Flavors. Pelican’s has over 100 different flavors, ranging from cherry margarita to sour apple to flavors for the bravest of souls, like dill pickle, fireball, and toothpaste.
3. They are hiring. Broke from paying for your Spring Break trip? Print out an application and either bring it by the stand when they open or email it to mtmarcom@gmail.com. The application can be found at www.pelicanssnoballs.com/columbia.php.
4. Fundraisers. Pelican’s offers various fundraisers and special events, like sorority percent nights, birthday parties, and more. They even offer mobile set-up and will come right to your doorstep.
5. Pelican Bucks. You can buy one dollar aluminum coins that make the perfect gift. Buy 25 Pelican Bucks for only $20.
6. You don't have to feel guilty. There are only 100 calories in a small SnoBall, as well as no fat or cholesterol. Next time you want a sweet treat, forget the ice cream — Pelican’s has got you covered.
7. Jadeveon Clowney. Yes, you heard me. The 2014 number one NFL draft pick loves Pelican’s. No more explanation needed.
