7 Lies I Tell Myself Every New Year

It's the same story every year. January 1st rolls around and I suddenly feel motivated to stop being such an unorganized hot mess and finally get my life in order. "This is it!" I tell myself. "This is MY year." But I know this routine all too well. The new year usually starts off strong. My motivation is high and I feel determined. Let's face it though, by March I'm back to riding the struggle bus and wondering how I make it through each day.

Here are 7 lies I tell myself for the new year.

1.) I'm going to wake up early every morning and go to the gym.

Honestly, I'm really asking a lot out of myself with this one. It is hard enough for me to wake up before 10 A.M. let alone try to make it to the gym before that. I may start off the first week of the year hitting the treadmill by 6 A.M. every day, but within a month, I'm back to sleeping until noon and watching Netflix instead of exercising.

2.) No more junk food

This one truly is a nice thought. I know how bad those potato chips I'm shoveling into my mouth are. So it sounds like a good idea to stop eating them and swap them out for carrots. But let's face it, I don't even make it three days in before I'm back to double-fisting Oreos.

3.) Update my wardrobe

This will be the year I throw my sweatpants from high school away and start dressing like I walked out of an episode of Gossip Girl. And that goes well until I start repeating outfits from the new things I got for the holidays and my bank account won't allow me to purchase a pair of Jimmy Choos. Plus those sweatpants are just really comfy.

4.) I'm going to actually cook meals that don't require a microwave or takeout boxes.

If I'm being honest, I'm lucky if I do this once a month....

5.) Find a loving relationship with a great guy.

This one really isn't my fault. If you haven't noticed, there are a lot of f*ckboys out there.

6.) Travel some place really cool.

This year I'll leave the state. Heck, I'll leave the country! But first let me pay all these bills so I can't actually afford a plane ticket to anywhere.

7.) Save money

If I just put 10 dollars aside every week... LOL who am I kidding, I could buy a box of Franzia with that money every week and what's really more important?

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
