Relationships should be exciting and enjoyable. You should literally be able to feel the love surround you even when you're not with you SO. But sometimes, we settle for relationships that don't fit our expectations or needs. Who has time for an unhealthy relationship anyway? If you aren't happy, make a change! Here are some tips for being in a healthy relationship:
1. Communication
I think this is the most important aspect of a healthy relationship. Communication gives you and your SO the ability to have an open and honest conversation. It's so important that you both talk about your feelings, your goals and plans for the future. Whether you want this relationship to last for a while or forever, it's a crucial to keep the lines of communication wide open.
2. Trust

3. Knowing that time together is important, but time apart is necessary
There is no greater feeling than being in love, and obviously if you could you'd probably want to spend every moment with your SO. But don't forget to take some time for yourself, to unwind and gather your own thoughts. Being alone is a necessary part of knowing who you really are.
4. Support each other
Even though you both may have completely separate goals, support one another. If your SO wants to be a pilot, help him or her study for exams. If you want to be a writer, look to your SO for inspiration. Always lift each other up and help one another reach the goals you've both had planned in your heads for so long.
5. Honesty is the best policy
Never, ever, lie to your SO. If there is one thing you should lie about, it's the surprise birthday party you're planning for him or her. Lying makes it seem as if you don't respect your GF/BF enough to tell them the truth. It also makes you look hella guilty.
6. Show your S.O. you care
I'm not saying you have to take your SO on fancy dates or buy the nicest jewelry or clothes. Good morning texts, love letters and hugs and kissed throughout the day will ensure your partner that you really do care and love them a lot!
7. Your happiness is just as important as your partner's
Don't forget that you're important too. While putting someone else's happiness before your own is a sweet gesture, you need to be happy too. You can't give your all to someone who isn't giving you anything. You both deserve to be happy!
