1. Todoist
This cross-platform to-do list has been a lifesaver at college. Not only can you assign a task to different labels, projects, dates, and priority levels, but you can access it through an app on your phone, or straight from a Chrome browser. Todoist is my lifeblood. I have 22 different projects that are essentially different folders where I keep my tasks organized. My projects are everything from class assignments and shopping lists to my bucket list and gift ideas.
2. Screenwise Trends Panel
If you like money and do not have many concerns about privacy, this plugin is for you. If you sign up to become a member of the Screenwise Trends Panel, Google will track how you browse and give you rewards.
The process if fairly simple. You just visit the Screenwise Trends website, connect it to an account, install the extension or app, then sit back and earn credit toward gift cards at dozens of companies. You can earn up to $3 each week just for using the internet, plus a bonus for signing up. It does not sound like much, but for a college kid, any money is better than no money. It really adds up over time.
3. Be Limitless
Nothing is nicer than having an extension designed to motivate you. This extension has gorgeous wallpapers and displays motivational quotes or tips in new tabs. It can be customized by setting goals and entering your name. My favorite part is when I open a tab it occasionally says “Good evening, Beautiful,” because I saved my name as “Beautiful.”
Another feature is it ability to show a breakdown of your internet browsing. It keeps track of what type of websites you spend your time on and how productive you have been. It is a great way to limit your time on social media or Netflix.
4. AdBlock
Most people have probably heard of this popular extension. As the name implies, AdBlock removes ads everywhere on the web. No more waiting for YouTube videos to play or having ads interrupt your Spotify jam session.
5. Chrome Remote Desktop
This glorious extension lets me connect to my desktop through any browser. It is perfect to use with my Chromebook to run programs incompatible with Chrome OS. It is much easier and faster to set up than a Secure Shell (SSH) connection, especially for those who are not very tech savvy.
6. nCage
Probably one of my all time favorite extensions is nCage. This incredible extension replaces every single image on every single page with a picture of Nicolas Cage. I strongly recommend using this with an extension called Hover Zoom. Hover Zoom enlarges an image by simply putting the cursor over it. You can never have too much Nicolas Cage.
