In case your summer job isn't paying you enough or, like me, you need to save some money for the upcoming school year, you're probably looking to have a more affordable summer. It may seem like everything costs an arm and a leg, but there are plenty of affordable exciting attractions to visit this summer. If you're in the Tri-State area, or are visiting for a few days, take the time to capitalize on these inexpensive attractions in NYC.
1. Central Park Boathouse.
For only $15 per hour, you can take a calming boat ride in Central Park. Boats fit up to four people and are available from 10 a.m. to sunset. Remember: don't rock the boat.
2. Black Tap NYC.
Even though the wait might be long, it's worth it. From personal experience I can say that these milkshakes are as good as they look and for only $15 each they're definitely affordable.
3. High Line.
In case you can't find any nature in the concrete jungle, I suggest that you head over to the High Line. With 11 different entrances, you can take a walk around the old rail line and try to find some peace in the city that never sleeps. And the best part? It's free.
4. Walk the Brooklyn Bridge.
It may cost a couple bucks to get to either side of the bridge, but once you're there it's completely free. Being just over a mile, this walk (or run) gives tourists and city goers a chance to take in the sites between the two boroughs. If you're particularly afraid of heights, I would suggest not looking down.
5. Botanical Gardens.
With a student ID, you can get into the Botanical Gardens for $18 on weekdays and $22 on weekends. The different gardens spanning 250 acres will be sure to keep your friends and you busy for hours.
6. Times Square.
If you want to be the ultimate tourist, take a trip to Times Square. Unless you want to take pictures with strangers in costumes, this venture won't cost a buck. Sit at a table and do some people watching; you never know what you're going to witness in NYC.
7. Smorgasburg.
After your walk over the Brooklyn Bridge, head over to Smorgasburg. Every Saturday and Sunday different food vendors come down to Brooklyn to satisfy your cravings. Do it for the Instagram.
