As the new school year is beginning, we all know that it is important to take care of ourselves physically and mentally so we don't get too burned out! Here are some budget-friendly ways to practice self care!
Meditation
Meditation is a great way to relax and focus your mind. There are also so many cool apps that will help you with this process (Headspace is my favorite). Give yourself five to 10 minutes in the morning or night, or even before you study or take an exam. Once you get the hang of it, you will find yourself relaxed and focused for whatever the day brings you!
Journaling
Take 10 minutes a day to write down how you feel, all of it. Just scribble it out. Write down the good and the bad, the dreams you had, or what you ate that day. Writing down all that you’re feeling is the best way to get it out. Then, later you can look back on it and think of some strategies to change what you're feeling.
Clean
Clean up your space and make your bed! It will make you feel better and clear your head. Having a nice cozy bed and no clothes on the floor always makes me feel a bit happier and more put together.
Get moving
Take a walk, ride a bike, go for a swim! Just get out and do something that raises your heart rate. Exercising is proven to reduce stress and focus your mind, not to mention keep you healthy! So try something new and get out there.
Pamper
Give yourself a manicure or take a long hot shower. Start small if you want, or schedule a whole hour just to pamper yourself. For girls, there is so much you can do on a budget. If you aren't good at painting nails, find a friend who is! Find steals at the dollar store and have a bunch of friends over and pamper each other together! Either way, you can have a blast and not break the bank.
Eating Habits
I know eating healthy on a budget can be really difficult. However, I suggest starting small. Try to get in two bottles of water, one fruit and one veggie a day. Then - after a week - take it up to three to four bottles of water and three to five servings of fruits and veggies a day. Once you get on a healthier diet you will have more energy, feel less sluggish and focus better. Who wouldn't want to feel like that!?
Taking care of your body and soul while under the immense stress of college is very important. So take walks in the mornings, meditate before bed and don't forget your fruits and veggies!
