Be confident before your meeting.

6 Ways to Own a Job Interview
Angela Lydon

Unless your sole purpose of being in college it to throw parties every weekend, we all embrace education for the same reason; to get a successful job of interest. But obtaining that pricy degree is only half the battle. Getting the interview and actually snagging the job can be just as stressful as the classes which brought you there. There are certain things to keep in mind while being subjected to twenty questions.

1.First impressions do count..unfortunately

If you walk into the room fashionably late with wrinkled shirt you found off the floor, your first impression will automatically go south. Being punctual and dressed to the nines is definitely a plus. Be cordial but not so professional that you’re robotic. Sometimes we come off too nervous and unfortunately don’t get to let the interviewer see our true personalities. So, being yourself will be beneficial when they observe you.

2.Know what the company is all about

Blindly applying for jobs is basically counterproductive. Showing up to the interview is borderline useless if you know nothing of the company’s background. Make sure to do your research on what the company value are, what their purpose is, and why you would be an asset. If by chance you get asked if you know what the company actually is, you will be prepared instead of sitting in an awkward silence.

3.Be mindful of body language

Let’s be real, the interviewer knows you’re probably nervous. Don’t reinforce the thought by consistently twirling your hair and fidgeting with your hands. You most likely won’t realize how distracting it is. They will be observing such habit unless you engage them in confident eye contact.

4.Come prepared with questions

Having specific questions in mind is always a smart idea. Such as what particular policies benefits are as well as generalized inquiries about the company itself. Making it clear that you are open to any questions regarding yourself is also wise. This shows that you’re not only motivated and prepared, but that you possess a basic interest in the company and put thought into the interview process.

5.Watch your word choice

Letting curse words slip like you’re driving in traffic, is not a wise decision. Be mindful of what comes out of your mouth. Accidentally making yourself possibly look bad, is unfortunately too easy sometimes. Telling the interviewer that you’re often late for school jokingly, is not breaking the ice, it’s ruining the opportunity.

6.Stay Professional

To make yourself less uptight and nervous about dressing like the CEO of a billion dollar company, have fun with it. You can add flare to your outfit; big necklace, cute blazer or colorful heels. Feeling like you look like you’re going to a casual party instead of an uptight interview, will give you more confidence. Don’t show up in a fancy dress shirt and yoga pants. Not a good first impression.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
