It's that time of year again. The time of year when tissues are broken out, barriers are made and everyone is finding themselves on more medication then they can count. It's flu season.
Those two dreaded words that send chills down everyone's spines. However, whether or not that's because you are the latest victim of this dreaded cold or because you're as scared of the flu as Chris Traeger, it is a tale time will tell.
Here are six ways to avoid that dreaded monster, and keep yourself happy and healthy this flu season.
1. Drink a lot of water.
Not only will this keep your body hydrated and your skin nice and smooth, but it also is one of the best ways to prevent the flu -- sometimes before you even get it! Our bodies need eight ounces of water a day (which isn't nearly as much as the woman below is chugging), so start drinking!
2. Get plenty of rest.
I know this may be the hardest on the list, especially as a current college student, but trust me, your body will be forever grateful to you if you do. Going to bed earlier, even if it's just by 30 minutes, can help your body recuperate and fight off germs using as little energy as possible. It's also a great excuse to relax!
3. Disinfect everything.
This includes door handles, your sheets, your clothes and most importantly, your hands. It's bad enough you have already been taken by the flu, no need to take others down with you. Germs travel fast, especially when you're not properly cleansing yourself.
4. Take a hot shower.
Taking a hot shower will help your body relax, as well as clear your sinuses. Too sick to stand up in a shower? Don't worry, baths work just as well.
5. Eat soup.
Soup soothes your throat, and can help relieve your sinuses as well -- not to mention it tastes good. Plus there's plenty of options so you'll never get bored!
6. And finally, avoid anyone / everyone who already has the flu.
As much as you may love your friends, partner, family or colleagues, make sure there is always a safe distance between you and the infected individual -- even if that means barricading yourself.
