I'll admit it, I'm a dweller. I sit for hours, wishing I had taken that chance, or done something differently. As my freshman year of college is quickly approaching before I can even blink an eye, I find myself thinking of the many things I told myself I would do the summer of 2016, that I now realize as time is running out, just aren't going to happen.
1) Go on a road trip with my high school friends
If this wasn't on your bucket list, your summer fantasies are out of whack. Imagine, the freedom of driving with no destination, just the sound of music and your best friends. I mean, we only spent the entire last month of school sitting at our lunch table, basically mapping out where we would go, the funds it would take, and who would switch off driving. Alas, life got in the way. (We also don't even talk anymore, so, there's that.)
2) Learn new talents and abilities
Not entirely sure why we suddenly believe that once that diploma is in our hands, all of the possibilities in the world are as well. (That may just be me.) It's pretty delusional to think that I could learn to play guitar, surf waves, and bake in the short span of three months, but a girl can dream.
3) Take risks, to an extent
4) Make new friends with old friends
5) Visit new places
That trail you always knew was in your town, but never got a chance to hike on? The questionable body of water you've driven by on your way to school, but never took a dip in? Even the Italian restaurant you know will cost an arm and a leg, but have heard good things about? What's a better time to venture out and explore new places and sights in your hometown than the summertime? All it takes is finding someone to go with, choosing the right outfit, and making sure you have more than $2.45 in your bank account in the case of an emergency. At that point, you may as well just go sight-seeing at the back of your local McDonald's drive-thru.
6) Make memories to last a lifetime
So, fellow summer dwellers, now that we're done being mopey and sad that our summers are basically sucking, let's try and be optimistic for what's to come this fall. The best time of our lives, filled with studying, student debt, and drinking our sadness away. Cheers!
