Unless you live under a rock, you've heard all the rumors and hype about Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder potentially making his way to Boston. In an interview with ESPN, Durant had lots of positive things to say about Boston, such as, "They're some of the best fans in the world, and definitely support their team. I like the city a lot. It's cold, but they love sports here. This is a family atmosphere that I feel when I walk around the city. So yeah, I like it a lot." This statement alone gave fans all over Boston the utmost excitement and hope. Could we really be getting the Kevin Durant on the Boston Celtics?! It's possible!
So, KD, let me give you some reasons on why you should consider coming to Boston.
1. Boston is the greatest city of all time.
No one can deny that we have the absolute best fans in the world. With 34 championships all around, they don't call Boston title town for nothing! Who wouldn't wanna be part of that? Oh, and one more thing, KD: there's way more to do in Boston than Oklahoma. We know the only thing to really do for fun down there is tornado chasing.
2. The Boston Celtics would be KD's team.
First things first, no superstars = no big contracts. With the NBA signing a new TV deal that allows teams to spend more money, (particularly those teams like Boston who don't have a superstar at the moment), Boston could potentially offer KD one of the biggest contracts in NBA history. For the first time, we'd be able to see what KD can do with his own team, without sharing the spotlight with Russell Westbrook.
3. We have the best coach in the league.
Over his first three years at Boston, Brad Stevens has already established himself as one of the best coaches in the league. Players on the Celtics love playing for him, and other players in the league have shown a lot of respect for the young coach - as opposed to in OKC where the coaching has been mediocre, to put it nicely.
4. The Celtics would be an immediate contender to come out of the Eastern conference.
We all know that the West has dominated the NBA for the last decade. If KD made the move to Boston, the Celtics would have a huge chance of making it far next season. He'd be the best player in the Eastern conference (sorry, LeBron). Not to mention, KD wouldn't have to deal with teams like the Warriors, Spurs, and Clippers; the only threat in the East is the Cavs, who have under-performed this year to say the least.
5. Boston has always been a big believer in KD.
Danny Ainge, current GM of the Celtics, has always been a big believer in Durant. Even to this day, he claims he would have taken him with the one pick. Ainge and the rest of the Celtics association have nothing but positive things to say about the NBA player when he comes to the Garden.
6. Celtic pride, tradition, and RINGS.
Ok, KD. I have one thing to say to you. Look up at the rafters in the Chesapeake Energy Arena. How many banners do you see? That's right, none. Now take that number and add 17. That's how many you'll see when you look up at the Garden.
All of us Boston fans are crossing our fingers and making extra wishes at 11:11 for Durant to make the move. Hopefully we'll be seeing KD bleed green and walking around the streets of Boston next season.
