Listening to live music of any kind is an utterly amazing experience. It doesn’t matter who you’re seeing or who you’re with, concerts are memories that will stick with you forever. Whether the band plays every one of your favorite songs or you’ve never heard a single one, those few hours of music and friends are exhilarating. Rock concerts are among the greatest things to take place on this planet because they have an atmosphere that can’t be compared to any other genre. Before attending a rock concert of any kind there are some characteristic things to know.
1. Throwing up the horns is actually appropriate
Nothing is worse than when someone misuses the rock and roll horns for something that is completely irrelevant. At concerts, however, it is a way that the crowd expresses they’re deep-seeded love for the music. So go ahead and put them up like everyone else.
2. The bass nearly knocks you over
Even if you’re standing in the back of the room you are guaranteed to feel the bass rattle your bones and nearly give you heart palpitations. The feeling is what kick starts your energy for that night and keeps you dancing for hours after it’s over.
3. You’re touching strangers and you don’t mind
Depending on where you are for your concert there may just be general admission rather than ticketed seats. If that’s the case you better be ready to be shoved by everyone behind you to get closer and closer to the stage once the band comes out. Not to fret though, it isn’t everyone being rude and pushy. Generally the crowd moves as a whole and the people around you want to get you up close with them. Just consider it an aggressive kindness. By the time the music starts you won’t care who is bumping into you or where that elbow hitting you in the boob is coming from. All that matters in those moments is that everyone is gathered there because of the same love for music that you have.
4. There are solos
Guitar solos, drum solos, all of the solos! It is one of the coolest things when the musicians break into a solo because man, people are talented! Seeing how fast drummers can play and how many chords guitarists can hit is insane!
5. There is a very diverse crowd
Rock crowds vary drastically depending on what group is playing but typically you can expect to see a range of people from the alternative 12-year-olds expanding their musical horizons, young adults who have grown up listening to this group, middle aged parents, and even a sprinkling of those kick-butt grandparents who are still down for having a good time. There are so many different types of people with lots of different styles and it’s awesome to see who you can meet or even be inspired by!
6. Your ears ring for days
After a crazy night of rocking out, you won’t be able to sleep at all. Yes, your mind is racing and you’re going over the setlist in your head again and again but the reason you can’t sleep is because your ears will be ringing for days! It’s a nice reminder of the stellar time you had and it also reminds you that you may need to take a break from the loud music for a while.
