Concealer, check. Foundation, check. Mascara, check. Contour on fleek, check. No boys, girls do not wear makeup for you. No, we don't spend 30 minutes in front of a mirror to make you feel special, or to look good for you. We do it for us, and we do it because we can.
There are many misconceptions to why girls wear makeup. That's why everyone in the dark about the real reasons why girls wear makeup needs to be enlightened. Here goes nothing.
1. Girls are insecure and need makeup to feel "pretty."
No, just NO! Why is a girl enjoying makeup any different than guys liking video games or cars?! It is not! Makeup can be a hobby, a profession, an art. Also, there's nothing wrong with women across the globe sporting foundation if they want to feel more comfortable in their own skin. If someone has acne, redness, or freckles they want to cover up, so what? It's a free country people. It doesn't mean that they aren't confident.
2. She wears "too much" makeup.
OK, someone please tell me what too much means? Wouldn't one say that each and every human being has a different definition of every word; including what "too much" makeup entails? Of course it's understandable that one wouldn't expect to see a classmate rocking a red lip, black smoky eye and hot pink blush makeup look everyday, but if they did, so what? Does that make them any less of a person? Does it impact your life? Does it hurt you personally? The answer to all of those questions is no. Everyone has to do what they feel comfortable with. That means if one girl doesn't like wearing makeup, another likes just mascara and blush and another wants to wear falsies everyday -- let her. You do you, boo. After all, everyone is going to have something to say, so do what makes you happy.
3. "She isn't even pretty without makeup."
I'm sure we've all heard the guys whispering into each others' ears as they see a stunning girl for the first time without makeup. I'll never forget the day of SAT's when most girls arrived with sweats, a messy bun, and a fresh face. The guys all began chirping about how "awful" the girls looked and how they thought that said girl was pretty, but seeing her without makeup scared them. Oh that's right, because the night before you told her you didn't care if she came over with no makeup, because all you cared about was getting that hookup.
4. "I don't care what you look like without makeup on. Just come over. You're beautiful either way."
While this is true, that all girls are beautiful either way, and in their own way, we all know guys are the biggest liars when it comes to this. Even the tabloids rip celebs apart for their fresh faced pics. It's awesome to find a man that sees your inner and outer beauty even when you don't have mascara coating your lashes or bronzer swept across your cheekbones. However, we all know a lot of guys, and girls can be shallow and judge you even if they say they won't; am I right?
5. Girls who wear makeup are insecure and have no self-confidence.
False. Girls wear makeup to feel the most beautiful they can whilst enhancing their features. Girls don't cake on foundation because they want guys to think that their face doesn't have a flaw. Girls wear makeup to enhance their natural beauty, not to hide their true self.
6. Girls only wear makeup to look good for guys.
Oh yes, because girls buy $30 lipsticks and $50 foundations for guys to think we look pretty. Yeah, I have had guys tell me the way I do my makeup is pretty and enhances my blue eyes. I sure don't think (at least I hope) that he thought I was wearing a full face of makeup for him. Yes, it is nice to wear makeup and be told you're pretty. However, I can guarantee you it is in no way for guys. Being a girl is expensive. Having good taste is expensive. More often that not, unfortunately, girls are competing with other girls to look beautiful.
All in all, I can promise you that just because I like makeup does not make me a superficial person. It doesn't make me shallow. It doesn't mean that I have no self confidence. All makeup means is that I like to look good and that I like to play around with colors and brands. I like to feel pretty. If makeup makes a girl happy, why stop her? Wearing makeup or not wearing makeup doesn't define a person. It's all personal preference. Makeup is a tool to help, not harm people. Makeup is one thing on this vast planet that someone can enjoy. You are all beautiful, you are all you because of what's inside, not because of makeup.
