Hannah Montana. The best of both worlds. A TV show about a normal girl by day and a pop star by night. She had two of the best friends in the world. She went on the craziest and coolest adventures. She wrote songs you would have stuck in your head for days (well let's be honest, years). It was the show to watch on Disney Channel. You felt like a member of the Stewart family. You got emotionally involved even when you were probably a little too old to still be watching it. You remember each episode by name. The Cheese Jerky song will always be your favorite. You still know all the words to the Bone Dance. You were passionate about your choice of Team Jake or Team Jesse.
Hannah Montana aired 10 years ago. And you still know all the words to all her songs, right?
Here are 6 songs that I know we all tried to make relate to our normal, ordinary, and awkward middle school life. Let's be honest, we probably still try to relate them today in some form or fashion when they pop up on our throwback playlists on Spotify.
P.S. The challenge is to not sing them as you read through some of the lyrics. It's really hard. Just try.
1. "If We Were a Movie"
"If we were a movie
You'd be the right guy
And I'd be the best friend
You'd fall in love with."
You secretly hoped that one of you guy friends would fall in love with you like the movies. You played out the different scenarios. You sang this song so passionately thinking about your middle school crush the whole time.
2. "Rock Star"
"Sometimes I walk a little faster
In the school hallway
Just to get next to you
Some days I spend a little extra
Time in the morning
Just to impress you."
Even though you were not a rock star, you somehow found a way to make this song go along with your nonexistent love life. You would sing it while you getting ready in the morning. You would even consider walking a little faster in the hallway to catch up with a cute boy.
3. "One In a Million"
"They say that good things take timeBut really great things happen in a blink of an eye."
You woke up everyday thinking that some great thing would happen out of the blue. You tried to make your one in a million happen with the cute boy in your science class. This was your ultimate ballad all throughout middle school. You even planned for it to be played at your wedding.
4. "7 Things"
"The seven things I hate about you
You're vain, your games, you're insecure
You love me, you like her
You made me laugh, you made me cry, I don't know which side to buy
Your friends, they're jerks, and when you act like them, just know it hurts
I wanna be with the one I know
And the seventh thing I hate the most that you do
You make me love you."
Even though this song was technically on the Miley Cyrus album, this was the anthem you tried to adopt as your own but it never actually fit in with your life. You are your friends sang this song at the top of your lungs in the car with your mom driving. You poured your heart and soul into belting out this passionate song.
5. "He Could Be the One"

"He's got somethin' special
And when he's lookin' at me
I wanna get all sentimental."
The song that gets stuck in your head forever. The episode where she has to pick between two great and attractive guys. The song that, honestly, you probably still try and relate it to your life in college. The song that you sing whenever you meet a really cute guy. Or even two.
6. "I Wanna Know You"
"I wanna know youWhoa oh, whoa oh, whoa oh
I wanna go there where you go
I wanna find out what you know."
The song she sang with David Archuleta. The episode where she left recording the song with David to go to prom with the geeky guy that asked her. The song where we fan girl over the American Idol star. The song we would sing every time we met a new guy. The song we sang when we saw the new boy walk into our classroom.
Hannah Montana songs were so not relatable, BUT we tried. They provided us with some good dance music. They provided us with an opportunity to belt it out and sing passionately. 10 years later and we are probably still singing these songs in the car on long road trips with our friends. Hannah Montana was a highlight of our middle school days and her songs got us through the awkward days even though they were no one close to being the same as our real life circumstances. Maybe one day we will be a rock star. Maybe one day we will find our one in a million. Maybe one day we will have 7 things we hate and love about someone. Or maybe one day we will just look back and remember the good times we had with teen pop sensation, Hannah Montana.
