Living in the heart of enemy territory is not something I suggest. The beauty of it makes it much more bearable. However, being from Philadelphia and following Philadelphia sports my whole life, has taught me to never back down.
A city like Pittsburgh does have quite the sports franchises and fan bases for those franchises, but I will say it's a cake-walk compared to being in the City of brotherly Love. Yeah, the Steelers have won the most Super Bowls in NFL history, and I don't really have much of an argument being that my beloved Eagles have never won a single one (you got me there). The Penguins have won a few cups more recently than the Flyers, which is something I never hear the end of. "When was the last time yinz won a cup?" blah blah blah. But the Flyers are 10-1-1 in Consol Energy Center so I'm just gonna leave this here:
Also, we won the very first game at Consol ever so, ouchie. And as for the Pirates, yes you have had your fair share of success the last few years with your one and done baseball team. Baseball is also the only sport where Philly has had a more recent championship than the Pirates, then again so has almost every other baseball team in the MLB. The 76ers have also won more championships than Pittsburgh's basketball team. Oh yeah, you don't even have one. Yikes. Your stadium food is okay I guess, but nothing beats the #1 rated stadium food at the Philadelphia venues so I'm sorry but there's another area we have a leg up on you.
Don't get me wrong, I love the city of Pittsburgh very much. Duquesne is wonderful, the city itself is beautiful, and I have established a life here. However, there will be no fan base that is ever more passionate than a Philadelphia one. Our city is in Pro sports purgatory right now and it's tough to watch. We will never stop rooting though. There's a reason we are always voted as the most passionate and knowledgeable fan base in every sport. Yes, we can be very tough and quite maniacal. Which is why even when our teams are bad, the opposition doesn't want to travel to Philly arenas.
People call me crazy, people bust my chops constantly, they call me obsessed etc. I may be all of those things, but I wouldn't want to have it any other way. I love the city of Pittsburgh and I love almost all the people I have met. Your sports facilities are beautiful, and your teams have the hardware to back up all the trash talk. That being said, us Philly fans are on a different playing field. Nobody is like us, and that's how we prefer it. One day when the Eagles start winning Super Bowls, the Flyers start winning more cups, and the Sixers and Phillies get out of the basement, will be a very happy day for our city. Until then, I'll enjoy my time in my favorite city on the planet, even if I have to deal with all you Pittsburgh fans.
