Recently, I have come to the conclusion that we as a society are focusing on all the negatives that are surrounding us. Now do not get me wrong: there are plenty of awful things going on in the world, but I have decided that I can not allow myself to live in the negative. We see it every day as soon as we turn on the TV, radio, any form of social media and other platforms of news as well. In a world full of negativity, bring in the positive and share it with others.
Now, everyone has their own definition of happiness and what counts. For me, happiness can be as simple as watching a Disney movie, going for a walk, spending time with my loved ones and so on. I am not saying that we all must agree on a level of "happy activities" to do on the daily but I am saying we need to recognize happiness and let it in.
It's not hard; in fact, it is quite simple. Notice at least three things a day that can put a smile on your face. Recognize that it is a positive and reflect on it for a moment. If you want to you can even take a photo of it or write it down to remind you that there was a hint of happy in your day. When it is time to wind down for the evening reflect upon it. Besides reflecting and noticing your own happiness, there seems to be a fear in our society these days of sharing happiness. One may think that their happiness can be viewed by others as "selfish, bragging" or what have you. But why do we feel as though we are able to judge others happiness?
If someone decides that they do not agree with what makes you happy, then remove them from your life. It does not mean that they need to be completely erased forever and ever but take a break. Unfollow them, forget about them for a while and continue to make yourself happy. If they truly care about you, they will support you in your happiness and all that comes with it. You don't deserve the negativity and, in fact, nobody does.
I believe that we have the power to tune out the negative and let in the positive, even if it is only a little bit at a time. Living a life with surrounding positives is a hell of a lot easier to live than drowning in negatives. Share your happiness, include others with how you are feeling and what brought you there. Find what makes you happy and chase it.
