Most people will argue that New Years and the beginning of summer are the times to have fresh starts. They're the times you can really start over or reinvent yourself. I'm here to tell you there's not a special time to do that. Why wait a few months, when you can start over tomorrow? Here're 5 ways you can have a fresh start RIGHT NOW, regardless of gender, that will really make you feel like a million bucks. None of these things take much time and take very little effort. There's no reason to not improve your life and happiness if given the chance to do so.
1. Build a routine.
Get up around the same time every day, even if you don't have something going on (minus weekends, you have to relax sometimes). Building a routine will help you be more energized and organized. I honestly can't make it through college without naps so maybe schedule a cat nap here and there throughout your week, just try not to oversleep. This will also help you schedule meal times and keep you from overeating and constantly snacking.
2. Put some pep in your step!
Commit to working out or doing some kind of physical activity at least twice a week. Finding a workout buddy to keep you motivated really helps. My roommate and I have a routine of going and making sure each other doesn't quit in the middle of a workout. Not only will you feel better, but you will look better too (and who doesn't get a boost from loving themselves.)
3. Start the day with a smile.
Sometimes you wake up and just want to curl up in comfy clothes and sleep some more. Look in the mirror, give yourself a smile, add a wink if you're feeling sassy like me, and start your day off right. Remember that positive attitudes are contagious. Also, remember to brush and floss that gorgeous smile, you'll thank yourself later.
4. Keep up with your personal hygiene.
Life gives you ups and downs to the point where you don't want to put in the work to shower and make yourself look publicly acceptable for a few days at a time. We all do it at some point, let's be honest here. If you're in that slump now, you can come out of it! Buy a new shampoo or cologne/perfume, or look up a homemade body wash online, and try something new that makes you feel vibrant again. Putting in that extra 15 minutes each day to do something that makes you feel great will make you feel like a brand new person. This is especially great if you have a depressive or bipolar disorder because you will have a little bit of an uplift from just being clean and being happy with yourself again.
5. Stay organized.
Planning out your day might seem like a lot of work, but it will keep you on top of your priorities which makes you feel in control and you'll see how much free time you actually have that you've been filling with random things like social media and Netflix. I personally benefit from a planner and colorful pens because I have an anxiety disorder. I feel much better knowing when and where I need to be someplace, and when I can plan trips home to see my mom or do fun things with my friends. I strongly recommend it.
