It's a known fact that everyone longs to be happy. Humans chase happiness, but it gets really hard sometimes. Here are some ways I've fostered happiness in my own life:
1. Start living.
Just get out there. The world is in front of you -- make the most out of the opportunities that come your way. Honestly, your attitude and approach to life impacts your happiness more than anything else. If you’re not happy, change something! You only have one life to live; it’s what you choose to do with it that matters.
2. Chase your passions.
Do what you love and don’t apologize for it. Happiness comes with purposeful living. Before college, I was really fascinated by climbing. So, I bought myself a pair of shoes, made some friends, and went climbing every afternoon. My hands have blistered, bled, and healed more times than I can count, but I have found something that fuels me. I look forward to every day for a new reason!
3. Simplify.
Get rid of everything you don’t need. Possessions will tie you down and cause a clutter in your life that is unnecessary. Grab a couple bags: One for trash and one for giving away. I promise you’ll feel better when you realize that everything around you has a purpose.
Also, don’t let this be a one-time thing! Limit purchasing to essentials. Help our planet by reducing your footprint.
4. Take care of yourself.
Along with helping our planet, take care of yourself. Whether that means drinking more water, working out, or cutting out harmful foods, you can make simple changes to improve your mental and physical health!
5. Be mindful.
I'm not talking about yoga. It may work for you, but it definitely doesn't do it for me.Think about where you are and where you want to go. How will you get there? Take a deep breath and focus. Choose to make little changes and eventually you’ll figure out the best way to go.
Through all of this, remember that the world does not belong to you. Seek happiness, but seek it without tearing others down. Remember to help others. It is in simple acts of kindness that true happiness can be found for the most people.
