We all know the classic car games such as license plate game and “I spy.” And let’s be honest, those games can get you through the hour, but how about those dreaded five-plus hour road trips? Want to avoid the crying children in the backseat, hours of electronics, and the seemingly endless supply of, “Are we there yet?" questions. Here are five unique car ride games to liven up your road trips this summer
1. The Whisper Challenge
This challenge involves one person saying a phrase to someone else that is wearing noise-cancelling headphones or is playing music very loudly. The person wearing the headphones must attempt to repeat what the other person is mouthing through the loud music. See who is the master of lip reading!
2. Punch Buggy
No punch backs! Make this physical game even more interesting with a scoring system, in which a point is awarded to the first person who calls each Buggy spotted. If a car is wrongly identified as a Punch Buggy, then one point is deducted from your score. Find the blue Buggy for bonus points!
3. Black Magic
This is one of those games that you have to be in “the loop” to enjoy. To start, designate one person as the “guesser” and another as the “giver.” The “guesser” will close his or her eyes while the "giver" silently points an object out to everyone else in the car. This object is now an "it" that the guesser must guess.
After “the guesser” opens his eyes, the giver points to different objects and asks if each object is "it." The secret is, none of the objects are "it" until after the giver points to something black. Whatever follows the black object is designated as “it.”
Example:
Giver: "Is it the sunglasses?"
Guesser: "No."
Giver: "Is it her (black) shirt?"
Guesser: "No."
Giver: "Is it this bottle?"
Guesser: "Yes."
Watch everyone else go crazy trying to crack the code!
4. The Point System Game
This is a game that’s especially entertaining on the highway. The object is to collect the most points by initiating hand motions to other drivers on the road. A certain reaction by other drivers will grant you a different amount of points. For example, a wave back is one point. A peace sing is two points, the “Call me” sign is three and a honk is five. Feel free to come up with your own point system!
5. "99 Bottle Of Beer On The Wall"
Only to be sung in absolute times of desperation. (For example, during boredom for more than a span of three hours long.) This song takes approximately 20 minutes to finish and annoyed parents are a guaranteed result.
Enjoy your car rides this summer!
