Let's face it, with the recent election results, there has been a pretty massive divide between those who voted Trump, and those who did not. Sadly, that divide is happening within families, specifically with extended family members that we all get to see on the holidays. Being a very politically active person, I sometimes find it difficult to not want to express my feelings about politics, even though I know it may start an all out war. So instead of an episode of family feud, I've come up with a few things to talk about other than politics at the dinner table with your family.
1. The food!
Someone (usually my mom and I) spent all day and maybe even the day before preparing and cooking this fantastic meal. Ask about recpipes, ingredients, why they chose to make the entrees that they did, how their pumpkin pie is so creamy and wonderful.
Oh, and don't forget to thank them, they worked really hard to make that meal perfect!
2. The weather
Is it snowing? Is it sunny? Has anyone been stranded in a blizzard lately? People love to share stories about their experiences dealing with some weather experience or another. Okay and as hard as it may be, DO NOT MENTION GLOBAL WARMING.
3. The family member that aren't there

4. Sports
It's football season!!!! Sports are a great bonding experience. Whether you root for the same team or the most hardcore enemies or aren't even very interested in sports, it's always fun to discuss that crazy move someone made to get a touchdown, and after dinner to sit down and watch a game.
5. Each other
You probably haven't seen each other in months if not years, just hug each other!!! No one needs to argue about politics when you've only got a few hours of a dinner party to see each other. Ask about how everyone's lives are, their jobs, everything!
And most importantly, remember that you are family. Even though you may not get along in every aspect of your lives, you do all still love each other.
Happy Holidays everyone!!!
