As the winter season rapidly approaches, we are beginning to remember how harsh the past couple of winter seasons have been. From the poor road conditions to the some of the coldest days in recent history, the past couple of winters really haven’t given us much to look forward to. Here is a list of 5 things that make the winter season unbearable:

1. Damage To Your Car.

When the winter season falls upon us there are a number of precautions that we have to take in order to protect our cars from the harsh winter conditions. The extreme cold that usually accompanies the winter season is known to cause pipes and hoses to rupture within the car, leaving us to make expensive trips to the mechanic. Also, the ice that accumulates on your windshield can wear down the blades of your windshield wipers. To make matters worse the salt used by snow blow trucks can cause damage to the paint and even the frame of the car.

2. Terrible Weather Conditions.

Possibly the worst thing about the winter season is the fact that it is accompanied by some of the worse weather seen all year. Not only is it blistering cold, but the snow makes hinders visibility of drivers while also making the roads extremely slick.

3. Shoveling Snow.

Something that we all hate doing during the winter is shoveling snow. It forces us to brave the elements of the winter weather and often leaves us exhausted afterward. What is even worse about shoveling snow is the fact that us sweating in the extreme cold can cause us to get sick. The most frustrating part about shoveling snow is the fact that all our hard work is often covered up with a fresh sheet of snow within a few hours.

4. Expensive Gas Bills.

We can all agree that there is no better feeling than walking into a warm home after being outside in the winter cold. Unfortunately, the current economic state of the world causes this luxury to be expensive with the price of natural gas fluctuating. However, there are new heating systems that are being developed that are designed to use the heating system whenever you are home while conserving energy while you are away.

5. Snow Slows The Day Down.

If there is something that snowy winter weather guarantees its that your day will go by slowly. This is because in order to safely drive your car you have to take 5 minutes to warm your engine up each time you turn it on. After taking the time to warm up your car, you must drive 5 miles slower than you normally would in order to avoid losing control and ending up in a car accident. Even after you manage to make it to your destination you have to walk slower than you normally do in order to avoid slipping on the slick ground and falling. This is why it always a good idea to give yourself an extra 15 to 30 minutes to get to your destination as it lessens your chances of having to rush in the dangerous winter conditions.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
