Midterms are finally finished and spring break is finally here. Many are going to enjoy the warm sun and the sandy beaches down in places like Panama City Beach, Miami, Cancun or Puerto Rico. Then there are the rest of us who are most likely just going home or chilling in our college apartments. Don’t envy those who are enjoying the sun when there are a few things that you can do while you’re home.
1. Find a great book to read.
Let’s face it, many of us do not read. If we do, it’s only because it is required for a class or something of that sort. Reading is beneficial for several reasons. Just reading a book can help improve your writing skills, focus and concentration. It can also improve your analytical thinking skills, memory and help expand your vocabulary. Reading a book can possibly prevent Alzheimer’s, dementia and reduce stress.
2. Volunteer.
Volunteering in your community is a great way to occupy your time, and being home for spring break gives you just enough time to give back to your community. Volunteering allows you to make an impact on your community and others. It is also a great way to meet new people in your community. Get to know the people in your community outside of your normal friend group!
3. Exercise.
Most people have been exercising in order to comfortably show off their summer bodies. However, being at home isn’t an excuse to be lazy and unproductive. Get up early and exercise. Exercising helps to boost your energy for the day. Those who aren’t fond of working out can use this time to start in the comfort of their homes — a completely judgment-free zone. If you aren’t going outside, there are plenty of alternatives such as YouTube videos, fitness apps and videos games that require physical activity.
4. Start a YouTube Channel.
Even though you may not feel as though going home is exciting, vlogging your experience spending spring break at home may be interesting to others. If you aren’t a fan of vlogging record yourself doing something interesting, like a DIY project. Do it yourself projects are fun, and many people to into projects like such in order to keep busy and save money. If your YouTube Channel is successful, you can make money off of your videos.
5. Visit your loved ones.
Most importantly, you cannot go home without visiting your loved ones. If you’re like me, many of your friends have already sent the, “When are you coming home?” texts. Make plans with friends and family. Watch a movie, go shopping! Whatever you decide, have fun!
P.S. Don’t forget to complete any school assignments (homework, projects, take-home tests etc.). This is a great time to catch up, or even get ahead on any assignments that are due when you get back to school.
