The Adirondacks is one of my favorite places in the world. There's just something about going from LTE to no cell phone service that's somewhat relaxing. The further and further upstate you get, the more disconnected you begin to feel from the world and society. Disconnecting from everyday life for even just a short amount of time feels like a getaway. Escaping all of your responsibilities and obligations and becoming stress-free for a little while is a great feeling. The Adirondacks is somewhere I go to escape reality and everyday life.
1. The lakes.
There's always endless amounts of fun to have on the lake. From swimming from one side of the lake across to the other with your friends, to see who can do it the fastest for a friendly competition, to bonding with your family while spending the day boating on a hot summer day. Tubing down the lake is always a blast when you're being pulled at high speeds holding on for dear life. Tubing always makes for the best laughs when you find yourself flying off splashing into the water. Whether you're ripping up and down the lake on a jet ski or just going for a nice row in a kayak, the lake is one of the best spots to be while in the Adirondacks.
2. The Towns.
Downtown is a small area that consists of just a few diners, bars and small shops. You begin to become a regular at these diners and bars and the waiters and waitresses know your order before you even have to say anything. The movie theater is so small that it can only screen three movies at a time, and sometimes you find yourself sitting in the theater with just five other people. The small gift shops downtown are the best to shop at. Shopping at small family owned gift shops and supporting local businesses and the community beats shopping in a mall any day.
3. The mountains.
Hiking in the Adirondack mountains is absolutely breath taking. With over 46 high peaks, the adventures never stop. Whether you're on a small hike with the family or completing your 37th high speak and determined to hike all 46, there's an endless amount of beautiful land to explore. There's no better feeling than finally reaching the top of the mountain after hours and hours of climbing and looking out to see the breathtaking view.
4. The people.
You'll never meet nicer or friendlier people than the people who live in the Adirondacks. When you live in a small town in the Adirondacks everyone knows everyone. You always get a smile or a wave hello from everybody passing you. For some odd reason, if you don't know the person you're passing on the street, you should still smile because chances are somebody you know, knows them.
5. Nature and wildlife.
You know what they say, there's more deer than people in the Adirondacks. Being able to get so close to a deer where you can feed it out of your hand is something amazing. Watching a momma black bear play with her cubs is truly fascinating.
From the beautiful color of the leaves on the trees in the fall to the snow covered mountain tops in the winter, the four seasons in the Adirondacks are beautiful.
Explore the Adirondacks, you won't be disappointed.
