If you ask me who my favorite celebrity is the answer most likely is going to be Demi Lovato, maybe even Taylor Swift, but as of now it is Demi. I don't have posters of her hanging around my room, I don't listen to her everyday, I don't always follow all the drama, I don't attend all of her tours and I most definitely don't have a fan page for her. Wait, maybe I do. Anyway that isn't the point. This is going to sound corny, but whatever. Demi Lovato has been there for me when nobody else has. As Taylor Swift says "people haven't always been there for me, but music has." I don't write music, but whenever I am feeling a bit sad and down I turn up the music and tune everything else out. Demi Lovato's music is my therapy and without it, I'd be completely lost in outer space. As someone who has dealt with my own share of battles in life, I look up to Demi Lovato as my idol and inspiration. She is a tremendous inspiration to me as well as millions of other teenage girls. The most important thing Demi has taught me is how to be confident and love myself just the way I am. I still struggle with it day to day, but I am slowly getting there and hopefully will be at peace with myself sometime in the near future. Confidence is truly a beautiful thing and Demi Lovato portrays it to us in a variety of ways.

1. Healthy is the new skinny.

In the past Demi Lovato struggled with her mental health as well as an eating disorder. In 2011 she admitted herself into treatment and now she is recovered and is starting to love her body. She is beautiful the way she is. Demi is flaunting the healthy, fit, and strong lifestyle instead of falling under the pressure of society's twisted rules. Nobody rocks the deathly frail look. Being healthy is beautiful!

2. No makeup Monday (#NMM).

Forgot to post this a while back... Let’s start a new Twitter/Instagram trend: #NoMakeupMonday... Why? Cause we deserve to show the world our beauty and our confidence!!!” Demi Lovato via Instagram post

Every Monday Demi Lovato posted a photo of herself with no makeup on. She wanted to start her week off by being body positive and loving her true beauty. She wants to encourage her followers to do and feel the same as well. "A confident female doesn't show off her naked body, she show's off her naked face." - Jose N

3. Loving yourself and the skin you are in.

Her new album "Confident' tells it all!

4. Overcoming mental illness.

Demi Lovato has been one of the few who have been open about their past struggles as well as being there to provide advice to those of need. In an interview with People Magazine last year, Lovato wants "people to know it's okay to ask for help and it's okay to have a mental illness." Nobody should be scared and most definitely ashamed or embarrassed to ask for help. As well as wanting her fans to ask for help, she also wants people to know that it is totally worth it in the end and it will get better! Just look at Demi now. She has came such long way. Hearing and seeing Demi talk about her mental illnesses helps others tremendously. It is encouraging her fans to seek help instead of brushing some things under the rug. She's making people happy and saving millions of lives without even knowing it. Demi Lovato is a true hero. She is a hero to me as well as her millions of fans!

5. Your past does not in anyway define you as a person.

For some people the past is a bright, beautiful, sunny place full of unicorns, rainbows, and sunshine. For others it can be dark and a scene from a horror movie. Sometimes it is a combination of both. We all have our happy days and we all have our days where we feel like our whole world is crashing down. It is important to realize and truly believe that our past does not define us as who we are. Dwelling in the past is one way to lower our self-esteem and bring down our confidence levels, and nobody wants that. Usually the past changes you and shapes you to the person you are now. It doesn’t mean you are stuck being this person who was created in the past. There is always time for change and it may even change you for the better. Nobody ever knows. We are who we want to be. Everyone has obstacles and struggles that they face at some point in their lives, but it does not define you. You can learn and even grow from it, and it may even strengthen you. The best thing that you can do is to learn how to accept yourself. It may be hard and feel like it is impossible, but you just have to believe in yourself.

College is filled with many things, and we're so often lectured to make the right decisions as we head out on our own into the college life. But sometimes it's necessary to indulge in some guilty pleasures as well as just doing things because you can. And honestly, a lot of the time it's inevitable. College is no piece of cake that's for sure, so it's okay to do some things you deep down know you shouldn't....once in a while anyways.
