Ah, "Super Smash Bros.," the infamous game series that pits our most beloved Nintendo characters and the powers, weapons, and skills they have acquired in their original games against each other in brutal, no-holds-barred combat. However, some of these characters know attacks in "Smash Bros." that they have no record of using in their original games. So here's a quick list of five characters in "Smash Bros." who have attacks that they did not know in their original games.
5. Pit
"Super Smash Bros. Brawl" is considered by many to be the most hated of the series, but it's also lauded for introducing some fan-favorite characters, such as Lucas, Wolf, and Pit. Pit's first and last video game appearance before "Brawl" was in 1986s "Kid Icarus." After a 22 year break, there obviously needed to be some changes made to keep this character relevant. Considering that Pit was only able to fire arrows in the original "Kid Icarus," the folks at Nintendo needed to think of a way to give Pit more variety in his attacks. His ability to split his bow apart and use the halves as blades was created in "Brawl". Thankfully, in "Smash 4," his moveset was diversified even more due to his new game "Kid Icarus: Uprising," which gave him access to many different weapons.
4. Ness (and Lucas)
"Smash Bros." for the Nintendo 64 was the first exposure many players had to Ness and the "Earthbound" series. So it came as a shock to me when I found out that Ness didn't know his trademark PK-fire, PK-thunder, and psi absorb in "Earthbound: Mother." The only psi attack in Ness's "Smash Bros." moveset that he actually knew was PK-flash, an attack that made its "Smash" debut in Melee. In "Mother 3," Lucas did not know any of the attacks he knows in "Brawl". In the :Earthbound" series, Ness and Lucas had psi moves that were healing and support-based. The offensive psi attacks were learned by their companions. In that sense, it would've been more fitting to put Paula in "Smash Bros." instead of Ness, considering she actually knew PK-fire, PK-thunder, and psi absorb in Earthbound.
3. Fox (and Falco)
When "Smash Bros." first came out, Fox was never seen outside of his arwing. Since he was too popular to not be in "Smash Bros.," Nintendo had to give Fox a land-based moveset. What we ended up with was attacks based on abilities seen in "Starfox 64," such as the reflector shield. However, there still isn't any "Starfox" game where Fox or Falco are able to spontaneously erupt into flame and wombo-combo people into oblivion.
2. R.O.B.
R.O.B. was a strange inclusion to "Super Smash Bros. Brawl," to say the least. Based on the toy created to act as a second player for the Super NES/Famicom, Nintendo had to create his moveset completely from scratch. Save for his gyro attack (which was a feature in the toy), R.O.B.'s attacks were created on the spot for "Brawl".
1. Captain Falcon
Granted, I don't know much about the "F-Zero" series, but I'm pretty sure that there isn't any instance of Captain Falcon nailing other racers with fired-up fists or electrified knees of justice (except for that one anime scene where he blows up Black Shadow).
The falcon punch, raptor boost, and falcon kick were all created specifically for "Smash Bros". However, his appearances in the "Smash Bros." series gave Captain Falcon more popularity than any "F-Zero" title ever did, and this has really shaped his character in the eyes of fans.
