I would be lying if I started off this article by saying that I personally have never judged anyone. I am sure everyone has, at some point. Just because the world has judged before, doesn't mean that it is right, though. What it really comes down to is that people are quick to judge the things in life that they don't fully understand.
I am not calling any individuals out here in my article, more so just want people to really stop and think while reading this, and remember a time when you have judged someone or been judged yourself. I have witnessed people being judged, firsthand, and it always makes me feel uncomfortable. Take this example. "Making fun of an overweight person working out at the gym is like making fun of a homeless person who is attending a job fair." I feel that some people are so quick to say something about others, but the second someone talks crap about them they get very defensive and sensitive, which are symptoms of an individual being insecure. Without further ado, let me give you a run down of the ten reasons why I believe the world should stop being so judgmental.
1. Mind your own business.
I figured this would be a good first reason. It's simple, if people would mind their own business in the first place, verses being nosy and getting involved in drama, then the world would be much more at peace... if only. Basically if two people are talking about something that doesn't involve you, stay out of it.
2. You don't know what happens behind closed doors.
This is a huge one. Back in middle school I remember getting dropped of back to my house after sleeping over at a friends house. The second the car pulled up to my house, my friend blurted out, "Oh, my gosh, Juliana -- your house is huge, you must be filthy rich." Back in middle school I always just assumed that all of the popular girls were swimming in money, and that they would always get this handed to them. It probably wasn't true about all of them, but it was just what I assumed back then. I look back now on the comment that my friend had made in the car, and little does she that no, I was no where nears filthy rich, but instead praying to god every night that my father would get a full time job so that I would have to fear of my family losing our house.
3. Clothing brands don't matter anymore.
its so true though. I used to believe that if my entire wardrobe consisted of Victoria's Secret PINK, Abercrombie&Fitch, and Hollister that that would automatically make me cool. Clothes are just clothes though. They don't define a person whatsoever. Now a days I primarily shop at thrift stores on an app called Poshmark, and a young adult thrift store called Plato's closet. Yeah, so I don't spend $50 on a pair of skinny jeans #sorrynotsorry, I am content with the way I shop and if someone else isn't then they're not worth my time.
4. What your current job is.
I am almost 21, and I still get asked the dreaded question of, "What do you want to be when you grow up, Juliana," I honestly never have a straight forward answer for that. I am okay with that though, because things could change down the road, so I feel it's important for me to keep an open mind, Currently I hold a job where I teach private and group swim lessons on a weekly basis. No, I do not plan on being a swim instructor for the rest of my life, but it does work for me right now in life. Weather someone is a doctor, barista, police offer, lawyer or even a zoo keeper no one should ever be judged for what job they have. As long as the person is making some money then its better than having no job.
5. Gender, boy, girl, bisexual, transgender, asexual, intersex, gay, lesbian... we are all the same.
We all all humans with feelings. No one, and I repeat no one, should ever be judged by their own personal identities. Everyone in the world has the choice to create themselves in whatever way they would like. Being different doesn't translate to, "Oh, you're now a criminal." People should feel safe about being who they choose to be, no questions asked.
