5 Reasons To Visit Big Bend National Park

This past week, I spent time in one of the most amazing national parks in the United States — a hidden gem if you will — Big Bend National Park. Located at the bend of Southwest Texas, this national park is home to some of the most beautiful and breathtaking scenery in Texas. It may be a bit of a drive, but here are some reasons why you should make Big Bend a destination on your next big road trip.

1. Amazing Trails

Home to more than a dozen gorgeous trails, going along mountains valleys and the Rio Grande, Big Bend offer some sights rivaling even the Grand Canyon.

2. Natural Hot Sping

Despite the fact that it can get extremely hot during the summer, Big Bend still offers a natural hot spring for anyone interested. The hot spring is also located right next to the Rio Grande if you prefer to cool off instead. I recommend going in the evening when it's cooler outside.

3. The Santa Elena Canyon

Located Southwest of the Parks entrance, the Santa Elena Canyon is one of the more popular tourist locations in the park. There at the canyon you can hike, canoe, or just gaze in wonder at the size of the canyon itself.

4. Driving Inside the Park

Big Bend is known for its outstanding scenic drives, going from desert to mountains to valleys, all on a handful of long roads.

5. The Night Sky

Big Bend is one of the the most secluded parks in the nation; it also ranks as one of the least light polluted parks. Because of this, the night sky is absolutely filled with stars, and it offers a great view of the Milky Way! Park your car any place in the park and you are guaranteed an amazing light show. Also, you'll probably see a shooting star or two if you stay out long enough.
