5 Reasons to Let Go of Perfection

Perfecting yourself is not your soul work

5 Reasons to Let Go of Perfection
Luk Beautifood

There’s a gigantic chance you crave perfection because it’s universally esteemed, but who attained the unattainable? Who started the meticulous riot? Who set the unachievable standard? Neither the culprit, nor the aptness can be found, but reasons to end the perfection quest are vast.

  1. Attempting perfection eliminates authenticity. When you attempt perfection, you’re not only morphing into somebody you aren’t, but into somebody you aren’t meant to be. I dare you to say “we are who we are because we are who we are,” 10 times fast. I double dog dare you to say it 10 times with sheer mindfulness of the affirmation. So who are you? You’re an imperfect human, but that doesn’t make you an inadequate human; it makes you an irreplaceable, kick ass human, worthy of effervescent existence. Authenticity is brave. Authenticity is bold. Authenticity is a top-notch choice to cultivate vulnerability, benevolence, and vivacious connections.
  2. Working towards perfection is a full-time job with no promotion. You become a slave to scrupulousness. You won’t receive recognition from yourself, let alone the people whose approval you seek, because it is impossible to complete a nonexistent exploit.
  3. Undertaking perfection overrides progress. The perception of perfectionism is faulty logic. Your perfection endeavor hurts more than it heals. In fact, it increases the odds of excruciating emotions since it’s unattainable. Triumphs are on the horizon when you strive for progress. Each stride towards progression takes you to your destination, with lessons and successes on the way.
  4. Striving for perfection is not self-improvement. Perfection is the foulest form of self-abuse. You set yourself up for destruction when you fight with all your might for excellence. What actually makes you excellent is your undivided devotion to become the imperfect person you were created to be.
  5. Perfecting yourself is not your soul work. Perfectionism revolves around perception. There is no way to control perception despite your best efforts. You waste your valued energy and fleeting time on your exterior façade, when it’s much more vital to channel inward. Your soul doesn’t pine for for the perception of perfectionism. Your yearning for faultlessness double-crosses your depth and supersedes your self-worth.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
