Sometimes life throws us fastballs, and we are expected to knock them right out of the park. Depending on the situation, this can be difficult to do alone.
Luckily, there are people out there who have spent their entire lives studying how to help people. I started seeing a therapist at a very young age, but therapy never took a toll on my life until 6th grade. It takes awhile to find the right person, someone who gets it and is able to provide you with positive feedback.
This process can take many years, however, some people get lucky on their first try. Although explaining your "life story" a certain amount of times until you find the right person is stressful, it's extremely worth it in the end. Here are five reasons why you should see a therapist.
1. They've always got your back
Whether you're in an argument with a parent, friend or boss, your therapist will always back you up, even if you're wrong.
2. They have the best advice
With years of experience, therapists always know the right thing to say. They've seen different people struggle through similar obstacles and are prepared to help at all costs.
3. They know you better than you know yourself
Once you've seen your therapist for over a year, they tend to read your emotions better than you're able to yourself. Therapists are trained to monitor patterns, allowing them to guide you on your journey to understanding yourself.
4. They're honest with you
People lie, in fact, people lie all the time. The confidential relationship you build with your therapist ensures there will be no lying whatsoever between the two of you. Your therapist will always be straight up with you and tell you how it is, even when you don't want to hear it.
5. They're on the outside looking in
Your therapist isn't around to see you live your everyday life, they must go off of what you specifically tell them. Without any bias, your therapist is able to analyze a situation as a whole, and provide you with feedback that you're unable to recognize because you are on the inside.
It's always nice to have someone to talk to, especially if they are completely unbiased. Even if your life isn't full of chaos, it's very relaxing to process your surroundings with an expert who one day may become your best friend.
